Model Trucks
I know some of my friends who are in the "mini truck" scene were into making models of their trucks, just wondering if anyone here has done that with our generation of trucks.
Here's a '60 Fleet swb I found today I've seen a few 4-5-6 models the past few months, but none under 20 bucks. |

Re: Model Trucks
Over the last year I have been trying to buy one of each on ebay, here are some of the prices that I have seen:
amt 60 short fleet $10-20 revell 65 short fleet $10-20 revell 65 short step $20-30 revell short step with hemi hydro boat $35-60 amt annual 60-63 long fleet built $20-35 unbuilt $65-250 (the 62and 63 are more rare and command the higher prices, with the 62 being slightly more expensive) 60-66 long fleet promo $70-300 you can also find an assortment of resin kits or bodies, resins usually go for $20-75 depending on what they are. most recently I have seen some trucksters(pictured) and a chopped 456 cab, I have seen a resin panel body(456) and heard about a resin gmc hood/grille conversion. |

Re: Model Trucks
I haven't seen a '65 out there, same year as my truck, so I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those. I really want to get one to get an idea of exactly what I want to do before I get to drastic with the real truck.

Re: Model Trucks
I think the 65 is only the hemi hydro , and the short step kit, the regular short fleet is a 64.

Re: Model Trucks
I build on average 30-40 models a years for customers with my business "Jakes' Ship Shop" (Can't say it right, after you've had a few) and my own collection . One company that does beautiful work is "The ModelHaus"
http://www.modelhaus.com/ Please check them out you will be AMAZED at what they have for your hard to find model cars and trucks. They even offer a re-chroming service or the nw chromed part itself. I've sent many parts to them to have them rechromed becasue when you take off a piece from the plastic tree, a small part of the piece will not be chromed. This takes away from a model that your being paid to build exactly like the owners car. They make replacement parts for model cars for body styles the original model companies did not produce. For example, no model company ever produced a 1960 GMC. The Hood, Tailgate and Dash are different for a 1960-61 Chevy as you kow. Modelhaus makes the replacement hood and tailgate. All you have to do is re-work the dash and fill in the diffeance. I've bought many a pieces and the castings are excellent. Hardly ever any airbubbles, they really know their stuff. BTW my shop is named so because I spec. in restoring and building ship models as well as everything else. You can see some pic if you want here. http://community.webshots.com/user/jbgroby

Re: Model Trucks
It seems like there's a model thread every once in awhile. There must be a lot of interest in them on this board!
I've got an overly stupid huge collection of dealer promos and kits, as well as some diecasts. As far as stuff specific to our trucks, I have a lot of it, but never really set out to collect it specifically. I just have a lot of everything, so I have a lot of that too. |

Re: Model Trucks
All I can say is wow! Your collection is stellar, the pickup models are nicely done. The Mercury grille in the El Camino looks good. I have to limit my collection to trucks, hot rods and muscle cars. My wife loves cars...but not that much! Mine are all stored in the attic right now, do to a little remodeling and painting going on.

Re: Model Trucks
Geez and I thought I was bad with 61 ship models. When Katrina hit I lost 27 fully built and rigged ship models in a custom case. I HAT E THAT F**KING STORM.
Now I got to build them all again! I have been so bust ton customers' models that I have not had time to work on my Heller Chebec. The Cown Jewel of my personel collection. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...50002684xTxWXX

Re: Model Trucks
Some of my more valued (to me) models are the Hubley Hot Rods and the Aurora (1/32) hot rod kits. I also have some old Ertl die cast chevy and GMC trucks 67-72 and 73-87. I do not dicriminate when it comes to trucks though and have Ford, IH and Dodge as well. I even have an old stamped steel Buddy L Ford Twin I Beam pickup waiting for a restoration. I also have a square body Nylint chevy with a Tonka stepside bed I am going to make into a Walker Evans replica of road race truck. Like the one attached.

Re: Model Trucks
To answer your question, 94tx......YES. I built a model of my truck before I built the truck to see what it would look like. Here are the model and the truck.

Re: Model Trucks
Protrash64, looks great, I love how close your real truck came out looking like the model.
Lilred66, I just won a model on ebay that I was sure I was going to be out bid on, so as of now I think I'm ok on the model. Thanks for the reply anyways. Last edited by 94tx; 02-17-2009 at 04:47 PM. |
