What's this thing?
This key cover above the gas cap is for what purpose? Haven't seen this on any truck pics here as far as I can tell. There are some relatively heavy gauge wires behind it in the cab. Sort of looks like it would be for a type of locking gas cap but the wires on the back threw me off. It's a 1968 LWB. Input appreciated.

aftermarket or possibly dealer installed. The vette's had them from the factory back then.

Is it threaded on the top? Is it an old whipper antenna mount?

I agree on the old school alarm system.....before we had them hooked up to automatically lock/unlock the doors. I believe these systems still required you to lock/unlock manually.

I had a chevelle with it. It was tied in with the door pins. Horn blew if you oped the door

how about power supply terminal for a in-bed camper shell.
That could explain the heavy gauge wires.

its still an alarm. more common on high end gm. but its a key slot. its an on off switch for the eather dealer or factory alarm. my chevelle had one.
