Brake pedal??????

Ok, I did a search on this subject and didnt find quite what I was looking for so here we go.
1. My brake pedal sits really high up towards the seat. I know the colum has been changed from one 3 on the tree to some other year model(or maybe the same I dont know).
Is the brake pedal supposed to be higher than the clutch pedal
on these year model trucks?

2. What does the brake light switch look like? I have a cyndrilical black switch with a white button abut 3" long dangling from under the dash near the brake pedal, is this the brake light switch? I ask this because I dont have any lights to the back of the truck and Im trying to figure out where to start.

If the brake light was just dangling the brake lights would stay on. The switch is a normally closed switch, when the petal is up it breaks the circut. Also going by the wiring diagram I have the switch should have an orange wire and a white wire going to it. Hope that helps.

That's your brake light switch alright. any of the trucks I've ever been around that had manual trannys had the brake and clutch pedal the same height. You should be able to adjust the pedal down at least a little. you can tighten the link between the pedal and the booster/master cylinder and lower the position of the brake light switch. also you might check for proper adjustment of the clutch. there should be about an inch of free travel in it.

According to the Chilton's Manual you should have about 4.5 inches of pedal travel for a manual brake system and 3.5 inches of travel for power brake system

"Brake pedal adjustment is made by removing the cotter pin, nut and bolt from the pedal rod end and screwing the rod end in or out to achieve proper pedal travel."

Thanks a bunch guys, I also found a picture of the switch and yep thats whats hanging. Im not sure exactly where its supposed to attach yet but I will get to that after I find my electrical bug so my batt will quit draining.
Ive looked at the venders manuals and just have to figure out which one I want, I dont kow if I need the full assembly manual or just the service manual.

Does anyone have any idea how I can identify if my colum came from our year trucks or not its a 3 on the tree and it looks stock except the later model GMC steering wheel.

There should be a rubber bumper that stops the pedal assembly from retracting to far back, if it's missing that may also be your high pedal problem.

Well I dont have the rubber bumper thing so Ill find one of those and give it a shot. Good idea on the pics and maybe someone can id the column. I will do that as soon as I borrow my budies digi cam. What area should I focus on for identification?

Cool Brake switch

Steve, the switch should have two nuts on it. Take one nut off and leave the other on, underneath the dash just above the brake assembly there is a bracket with a hole in it. Slide the switch with the threads up through the bracket and put the nut back on it and adjust it so that when you hit the brake pedal it lets off of the switch and you have brake lights.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
