temp gauge question

i just picked up a 70 custom 10, anyway i had to take the intake manifold off to do soem work, after putting it all back together i started the car and noticed my temp gauge was bouncing very fast back and forth from cold to hot, i looked at the green wire inder the hood and it was striped in spots so i replaced a couple feet of wire, anyway not the gauge wont move off cold, is there any test i can do like grounding the wire or anything to find out where the problem may be?

Re: temp gauge question

same problem here, does your green wire have a plug that goes into the sensor? or how is it plugged in?

Re: temp gauge question

(i looked at the green wire inder the hood and it was striped in spots so i replaced a couple feet of wire,)

In order to replace a couple of feet of wire a butt splice would be necessary.

Re: temp gauge question

Where the wire connects to the sendor on the motor and where you tied the new wire into the old wire check for good connections.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: temp gauge question

If the wire (green, encased in a heat shield) comes into contact with the engine, the guage needle will move everytime it grounds out. I once had a problem with my wiring and the needle bounced from hot to cold so fast I thought it would break off.....as I bounced down the road.
