I'm legit now, and I want your powdercoating business

After discussing it with Josh, I have decided to become a legit board vendor.

In case you've missed my self promotion lately, I now do powdercoating.

I have two ovens, the biggest of which is able to fit suspension pieces and engine parts. I cannot do core supports or axle housings yet, but that is coming soon.

If you need some work done, I'd like the chance to get the job. I have a good bead blasting setup and a professional quality powdercoating gun.

In case you don't know, there are thousands of colors of powder to choose from. I can also apply filler powder to the part first, to take care of any rust pits or the like. There are also clear powders to put over the color for added gloss and durability. I can do all of this.

If you choose a color that I don't keep in my shop, I can get it from my suppliers in 4 days max. So, if you send me your parts, I can have the powder in hand by the time your parts arrive here. No waiting this way.

I usually can offer two or three day max turnaround time from when I get your parts in hand to when they go back out to you.

I also try to keep some common parts in stock to offer exchange service. I keep door strikers, hood latches, grille supports, headlight bezels and the like.

I also will offer a rebuild service for door hinges. I will disassemble your old hinges, blast them clean, coat them in your choice of powder, and reassemble with new pins and bushings to give many years of life.

I can disassemble brake calipers, clean them, coat them in your desired color, and reassemble using new seals and boot. You get a pretty caliper that won't rust or look old before it's time.

Give me a chance, I don't believe you will be dissapointed.

Here are a few recent jobs I've done:

Ultimate Chrome

Satin black

Lime green

High gloss white

Re: I'm legit now, and I want your powdercoating business

Fellas, I won't compete with anyone concerning prices. I do the work to my standards, which are very, very high. If you compare cost, beware what you might get. So far, all of my customers have told me that my prices are much more than fair and singificantly lower than other shops quoted. I do this stuff as a personal passion not a bread and butter business. Every morning over my coffee, I mentally prepare myself to rise to the highest standard as I can. Production shops don't do this. I've been told that it shows in my work.

That's a 60 dollar job. The pins and bushings run me 20 dollars and forty labor to blast and coat the hinges and do the rebuild labor (ten dollars per hinge).

CONGRATS Kevin, I know you'll do great at this. I'm sure I'll get on my 72 in the next year or so then I'll need something done. In the mean time I'll try to round you up some parts for you to do and sell.

Good to know. I am not to that point yet, but hope to be soon. I would love to see a price list as well. One thing I had in mind was to get my tailgate arms coated. Do you think they would hold up? Paint sure doesn't!

Re: I'm legit now, and I want your powdercoating business

I can't really just put up a price list.

Basic colors are one thing.
Metallic colors all require a clearcoat, which means an extra spray and bake cycle.
Plus some powders cost more than others. Chrome powder is significantly more expensive.
And, some parts are simply in worse shape than others. Some parts require multiple coats of primer powder and sanding to fill rust pits.

Then, some parts are greasy and require a good bit of gunk removal beforehand.

Cast parts, whether iron or aluminum, or pot metal require a 1 hour cook off cycle to outgas the pores of contaminates.

As you can see, a pretty clean pulley coated semi gloss black could be a drastically different job than a nasty, greasy pulley that gets degreased, then two coats of filler powder and correspondingly, 2 baking cycles, hand sanding, chrome powder, then baked, then clear powder and baked again. One takes 5 times the labor and 5 times the material cost as the other, for being the same part.

All good points. Personally, I don't mind paying a little extra for quality. Glad to know you are a part of our great vendor group now.
