SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
It`s interesting how many ways a truck could be delivered. There may be certain options we are used to finding together or on certain models. But,anything goes and it`s neat to see how an individual ordered a truck according to what was important to them.Have you ever seen a truck that had many options, but not what we consider "loaded"?When we think loaded we think big block,tilt,tach,buckets,a/c,and things like that.We may see a work truck with alot of utility options and no concern for fancy stuff. I had this truck years ago and I just dug out the glovebox door I saved. This owner wanted alot of utility features, yet wanted the truck to be trimmed. It was a`71 and although it doesn`t say,it was a Cheyenne. It had the CustomCamper badges and most options were to support hauling the camper.I just thought it was an interesting group of options showing what was important to the owner.
Does anyone else have any intetesting ones?

19 options on the longhorn.... but it still strikes me as a somewhat bare truck.... I thinik mostly becouse it has no option packages... no trim level.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
special-K,
How many people back in that time frame do you think ordered a truck to drive it at 55 MPH or at 70 MPH. I bet less than I can count on my hands and toes. The farmer didn't care about how well it handled or how well it did on the black top. All they wanted was a work horse to haul or pull farm equipment. LockDoc, These bigger trucks are the ones to look at in yards for the tack's. It's got the 427 truck engine. Is it a electric tach or the cable one. It looks like a electric by the sheet. When I found my tach dash it was a dump truck and I found 2 cable tachs before I found the electric. They were all in the same yard sitting side by side. I should have bought all of them but I didn't. Wish I had bought the motor too.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
The cable tachs are diesel since there`s no ignition. That Longhorn even had cruise control.Imagine heading down to the dealer and ordering up a truck to haul a camper. You look at the choices and just pick what you imagine will enhance that use.Yet,it`s not for daily comfort so you may give up an option like a/c.I think that use caused buyers to think more about what they needed or could do w/o.There was also the expense of the camper (purpose of the truck) to consider,as well as money left over to "use" it.

Here is my friends 72 step side we just picked up. 6cyl, with p/s, p/b, and and automatic. Just a little odd for a 6 cyl truck.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
Well,it`s got options.Just not cosmetic.I want to say,"A well-optioned base truck",but we think of fancy options when we say well-optioned.In my opinion it`s a well optioned truck because it was optipned to enhance it`s purpose. It`s well-optioned from a truck point of view.Mine was a base Cheyenne as far as comfort options go.The guy wasn`t going to opt out all these comfort items but decided to base it on a nicer truck to start with,it seems to me.He didn`t even get a sliding window. The camper didn`t have a slider either.
Look how they ordered painted mirrors. It had stainless and I`m sure they were original. It was a Cheyenne,so the mirrors would be stainless. It looks like that Stepside was just ordered to drive easier and that`s it.That`s pretty neat.Sounds like an ole feller`s last truck to me.I had two unique,I thought,low-option`69 Stepsides. One was a C/30 in Dark Green (Woodland) with a 396,4spd,gauges,and air.The other was a C/20 in special paint. It was a light grey with all 5 wheels red. They were 16.5s and puney, had chaulk marks on the inside of the rim.It was a 250/PG with gauges,am,lighter,p/s,and pb.It never had any lettering or company markings.I actually had another`69 CST/20 Stepside, too. That was a bit unusual. It was about loaded:396,TH400,air,and more.

Here's my '72. Quite a few options, and was still a Custom Deluxe.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
"Loaded" back in those days was a rather difficult thing to define. Does a "package" with several trim options make a truck more loaded than one with a bunch of individual utility options? Is loaded chrome and flashy? Would a truck with a high trim level and otherwise little extra be loaded? Is loaded having everything that didn't delete something else? Heck, there were even "delete" options. There were just so many things available back then that I would have a hard time defining it.
In later days (mid 70s-80s) "loaded" was PS-PB-Auto-A/C-Pwr windows/locks-tilt-cruise because all of these things were optional. Other than a "trim level" the options were starting to dwindle. Today a lot of that stuff is standard and options are ever-shrinking or they are in packages/groups only. Many of the young guys don't realize that a "manual" transmission which is often refered to as a "standard" transmission.....was exactly that "standard" meaning not optional. A lot of cars/trucks today have a "standard" transmission that is automatic.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
Here's a question. Where was the SID printed up and "installed"? Was it at the factory or after the dealer had the truck ready for delivery? If it was done at the dealership, it would not be completely outside the realm of possibilities that the dealer prep guys just didn't "bother" typing up all the options. Cnut

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
I'm sure that it was a factory thing. If it were up to the dealer there would have been a lot more issues with consistancy and accuracy. There was a specific font used by some huge printing device, that would have been hard for dealers to accomlish. They would have to have been hand typed.....that would have been a big problem.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
I agree it was a factory deal but I also know a lot of them have been tampered with over the years also. Mine included. This is why I have my doublt's so many tach dashes in 1/2,3/4 tons. My dad had over 30 years with Chevy truck sales and he had a bunch of these trucks. I asked him yesterday if he remembered ever ordering the tach in one and his answer was did they have that back then!
Now he is 86 years old now too though. He knows his stuff though when it comes to the automobile. Evertt Chevorlet in Hickory NC. This was the promotion they did for the camper at the dealership. Picture is June 1969. The motor cycle was his winnings for the most sales. Our house in Charlotte NC. Picture June 1972

I answered an ad for a '69 LWB and snapped a few pix. It was a C/10, but had some options.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
Interesting stuff here. Which is the real deal? Is it or not!
Is one the electric tach maybe and the other a cable drive, only the owner knows for sure...right! So which is it guy's. LockDoc, this is what you posted tach U16AH ChevLoRay, this is what you posted tach 4U16EA. Yours also has the speed warning listed too! 4 from bottom right. Best I can tell it's 4U15KA There is a lot of stuff that is listed but in differant ways like A/C is 4 season on one and air conditioning on another the numbers are differant too! I'm going to start another thread on this.

Cool, if he has the dash and it's electric I'd be interested in it. Depending on price.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
Both tachs are U16.The other numbers don`t matter.I think the option number would be the same even though the part would vary.A 6cyl tach would be the same option number, too.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded
If that is so a tach number for any chevy truck is good? I see that part of the same number's are there but why the differances? That's what I'd like to know.
