Got me a 71
Finally picked up a truck last weekend. I have a whole lot of ideas for it but first I want to make sure it is safe to use as a daily driver. Anybody have any suggestions on what they would do first. I am hoping to spend as little cash as possible up front, to try to keep the wife happy. Any input would be much appreciated!! I love this site, it has given me so many ideas, and will probably help make the wallet a little lighter! Sorry about the picture quality.

Re: Got me a 71
Looks like a great start!
If it runs good probably just do a tune up. Check the condition of the fluids. Check the brakes, tires and carry a few tools and a light in case something needs attention. Most of all get out there and drive it and enjoy your new truck!!!

Re: Got me a 71
Nice. x2 on what 3quartertime said. Sometimes I wish mine was in that condition so I could enjoy driving it instead of blown apart in pieces on the shop floor.

Re: Got me a 71
Thanks guys! The truck has a 305 with 3 on the tree. I was pretty excited to find this truck because my grandad had one like it when I was a kid. It has rust in all the normal spots, nothing too bad. It was running ok when I got it, but I put new plugs and wires on her when I got home. I drove it to work and back yesterday with no problems.

Re: Got me a 71
with the others,, sharp looking project,, I would also do a through clean out, maybe even take out the seat and such, check out the floor and you would be surprised as to what you will find.. I have found lots of change and sometimes tools to help offset the orginal cost of the truck..

Re: Got me a 71
No doubt, I already found over $5 in the ashtray! I know some people on here have some stong feelings on the subject but I think one of the first major projects is cutting it down to a shortbed...
