Moving gas tank to rear...Easiest way? Best way? Best filler spot? Anybody put it hidden behind pull down license plate?

I put a RCI fuel cell between the frame rails. My filler is an aviation cap on the bed floor. I don't know if this will suit your needs but it works well for me. Good luck.

After I swap my front drums for disc brakes, I intend on moving my gas tank to the rear also. I still dont know where i'm going to put the door. The bed floor would be the easier way but i think it would be a hassle with the tailgate down. Thinking about useing late model door on outside/ side of bed but i was thinking of putting it behind the license plate, hidden. I guess i wont know till i start the project.

Could be wrong. Have heard that behind the license plate won't work. As the tank is too high for the spout. Unless you put your tank lower than the filler tube. Would be about 4 inches off the pavement??

Someone on here used a tank from a 1st Gen F body, and it worked well as far as I know. It looked sweet, and the filler was behind the license plate

I had an aluminum tank made, going to put a flush mount marine style filler in the wood floor or just a flip door to the cap on top of the tank...

I thought about the Summit RCI tank that they have...

What are you guys using for the sending unit? I have been planning on doing this to my truck for the last seven years, but I don't drive it much.
I just hate the wasted space, that the stock gas tank takes up, behind the seats.

I have a 100 gallon tank, previously used for diesel oil, that I can convert. I would need to mount it across the bed.

I also picked up a 20 gallon aluminum tank that can sit across the front of the bed. The problem with these two tanks is, should I need to load up one of my bikes, the bike might have too much weight on the tailgate.

As for gas tank filler, personally, I like the behind the taillight filler.... So cool.

you can find sending units for generic tanks at JC whitney or brothers for about $30. 90 OHM unit for the 67 and up trucks. SOme of the SUmmit tanks comes with one already.

That behind the light filler is cool, so is the marker light filler and stake hole filler.

Best to just buy a kit like this and concentrate on where you want the filler cap to be.

i used a 69 camaro tank with the filler behind the liscense plate, works great, looks clean

These are about $110 from Summit and come with the sender. I'm not sure about a fill spot yet but most likely a lift open spot in the bed. I just bent up some 1" flat for some straps and some 1" square across the top for upper support.

comes with sending unit and mounting straps and is a bolt in installation besides the filler?

what do you gotta do, extend the fuel lines, and make a filler? thanks

The price is approx I bought it a year ago. It comes with the sender but the straps and upper supports I made. It is just a drag cell that they sell. Basically about the right size to fit right in.

i bought the cpp aluminum tank and was overall pretty happy with it

yes its aluminum. all tig welded with baffle & sump to control fuel slosh. dont remember right off what thickness it is though

1 more time. I made the straps and supports on the top. Why not just bend some new lines. You can buy straight ones from any parts store pretty cheap.
