Re: how to remove woodgrain insert on glovebox

its a vinyl stickon decal non reuseable// sometimes a heat gun will help you peel off most of it in pieces then its just a matter of scraping the rest off with a scraper or razor blade then cleaning up the excess residue with laquer thinner

I'm not sure but I think it glues on and if it does a heat gun will help get it off.

You want to remove the whole appliqué from the door, not the wood grain from the appliqué right? Take a butter knife of something real flat and gently work your way around the Cheyenne emb. It is held on with 3 barrel clips.

Then take the same butter knife of a putty knife and start on the aluminum appliqué working your way around and around being careful not to dent the aluminum from the back side. It is glued on there very good and this is the only way I know of to get it off.

You`ll have to get behind the emblem and careully pry to find the mounting pins,it pushes in.Carefully pry off watching to pry at the pins.Just a little at a time at each pin.
Use a heat gun and carefully pry, again,on the applique. It`s glued on.

Re: how to remove woodgrain insert on glovebox

like all have said above!! I removed the aluminum thingy that the woodgrain decal was applied to. It was held on with double sticky tape. I got one of those razor blade knives that will extend out and the blade is able to be broken off. A little laquer thinner to soften up the glue and the razor thingy, two or three beers, and WAALLLAA. Did not even bend the aluminum thingy.

Re: how to remove woodgrain insert on glovebox

Not a bad idea.It`s kinda touch`n`go,so that`s safe.

Just a note:These have no vinyl and aren`t stickers. The woodgrain is photo etched directly onto the aluminum. The woodgrain bezels we can buy are mylar stickers and so is the glovebox door woodgrain,it`s not an applique.

Re: how to remove woodgrain insert on glovebox

Good information guys. I purchased the woodgrain cover for my glovebox, not knowing till after the fact that the trim ring isn't part of the decal. Doh! Now I'm searching for a complete glove box door to complete the look. I'll know now how to attempt to remove the entire assembly.

Re: how to remove woodgrain insert on glovebox

I know this is a old thread but great information!

The blue tape I put down around the emblem seemed to catch some wood grain paint, which is a bummer. I used my plastic pry bars for the emblem & wood grain appliqué, they came up easily and in no time.
