Starter bolt length - Automatic
Going from standard to automatic - does anyone have any bolts laying around they can measure the length of the two bolts for me?

The ones I have measure 5 1/8". If you go to the auto parts store they should have them on the shelf.

Don't use regular hardware store bolts, you won't be happy when they twist off in the block, or break the corner off the block. Starter bolts are knurled for a tight fit and are grade 5 or better.

sleepertruck72 - thanks for the offer, but I just want to make sure they're right.
green machine - I hear you on the bolt strength and design - same type on my 70 camaro. I measured the area on the starter which the bolt passes through and it's only 2.5 inches. I'll go look again tomorrow at Autozone or NAPA. Autozone did have some that were 4 5/8 labeled "starter bolts" Autozone didn't show a starter for a 69 with auto only a 70? So I got it for a 70. thanks for the help

Check the "Help" section at your local parts store, that's where they usually are.

The "Help" section has a kit that comes with 3 different size bolts. Bought mine at Pep Boys.
