Thumbs up Champ 500s

A buddy of mine called me and said he had a set of wheels for my truck I might be interested in. Went by his place yesterday to see what he had and they are a set of the old school, i believe, Centerline champ 500s but they dont have the 3 bar spinner or any center caps. All 15x8s. They are pretty stained up and tarnished but I have always liked that wheel which im pretty sure is not made anymore. Wonderin if anyone has any pics of them on their truck, what it would take to get them presentable again, AND if anybody might have a line on where to find some center caps if they still exist! Thanks gentlemen.

Re: Champ 500s

The threebar spinners were held on from the outside with allen set screws so you should be able to find some generic spinners on Ebay . Are the wheels polished or satin ? I owned a set of each before . Most were satin or brushed and those would be easier to clean again . If they are satin , bleach them with Eagle 1 B formula , let it sit about 30 seconds and wipe it around with a rag then wash it off with water . Next is the hard part . Polish the wheel by hand in the direstion of the brush marks ,or grain of the wheel if that makes sense . After they are polished with Mothers polish bleach them again with the B formula but only let it stay on for aabout 5 seconds then wipe it with a wet rag with the grain again then rinse the wheel with water within 10 seconds of spraying the wheel with the bleach . They will look almost new with that factory fresh aluminum shine .

Re: Champ 500s

Thanks for the info Frank-- the wheels are satin, and as far as the center caps, I would like to find some caps instead of the spinner. Gonna try to pick them up today, and attempt to clean them up.

Re: Champ 500s

I know Center Line makes a new version of those, called Champ 506. They don't come in 15s, though. Only 17s and 18s. Those were always my favorites back when I was a kid in the 80s. You might call them and see if the new caps can fit your old wheels.

My old 82 GMC back in 1984.
The center caps were aftermarket items from Springfield Street Rods.
I think I still have the old original caps somewhere, I’ll look around tonight.

Re: Champ 500s

Man, 7T7 thats a wicked lookin truck! Ill give Centerline a call and see what they've got. Correct me if i'm wrong, but shouldnt the style of cap for that wheel be the same for all of the wheel diameters? The hole for the hub doesnt change from say a 15" wheel to an 18" does it?? Thanks guys.

Re: Champ 500s

Funny how stuff comes back in style. Everyone hang onto your 90s billets for another 10 years.

84swb, I did a quick search on the Summit site and found this:
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=KeywordSearch

They have the measurement in there so you could see if they're they should work. They have the spinners there too, so that will be pretty if the center caps turn out to be the right size

Frank, that's a great looking truck dude.

Smile Re: Champ 500s

Thanks wabbit- wasnt planning on using a wheel like the champ, but only gave 50 bucks for them so now ill probably run them for a while. Funny how you can have a plan for a build then find something cheap or at a "deal" and then plans kinda change. Whatever works at the time!! Thanks again!

Re: Champ 500s

7T7's old rig is / was awesome. It'd be nice to see a lot more pics of that truck, and / or anybody else that had a smoothie Boyd influenced truck from back then.

When I had my red '86 (mid 90's) I was killing myself trying to come up with the cash for a set of 16x8.5 / 16x10 Champ 500's.

By the time I saved up enough Centerline had quit making them.
