Going to look at a 2wd (got a couple questions)

I am sure this horse has been beat to death, but I have some simple 2wd questions. I searched for the answers but could not find the info I needed.

This weekend I am going to look at what is supposed to be an original 2wd 1st gen Blazer. I have not seen it yet but it is supposed to be a '71 or '72. I am interested in buying this Blazer to restore.

So I am feirly familiar with the trucks. I have owned a '72 & still own a '69. I know what to look for as far as body goes.

Now for the questions. How can you tell if a 2wd Blazer is an original 2wd?

1. Is there a certain number or letter in the V.I.N. to denote 2wd?

2. Are 2wd Blazers coil sprung in the rear?

3. Anything else y'all can think of that would benefit me before I go look would be appreciated.

Thanks, Boz

original 2wd's are coil sprung. Look for rust in the windshield frame and the rocker boxes.

Re: Going to look at a 2wd (got a couple questions)

Here is a link to LMC Truck. It shows how to decode the VIN. I think the second digit of the VIN tells the tale. K is 4x4 and C is conventional or 2 wd. Check out the link for more info.

Re: Going to look at a 2wd (got a couple questions)

If it were me - I would need to verify the following to make sure it is a legit 2wd...

1. Matching VIN, Clear Title and Glove Box SPID
2. VIN should have a C (2wd) in it instead of the K (4wd) in the 2nd char spot - so CKE would be a 4wd Chevy with a 8-cyl - a CCE would be a Chevy 2wd with a 8-cyl
3. Rear trailing arm setup with coils - noting frame rivets still intact

one the the threads here showed how to check the frame vin to make sure it is a real 2wd frame and to match it to the body.

What does SPID stand for. I know what RPO is, but unfamiliar with SPID

Thanks for the info. I am excited, I hope it is the real deal.

from what I have been told - Service Parts IDentification - this lists the RPO [Regular Production Option] codes for the truck...

Also, 2wd have a lower tranny hump than the 4x4.

Re: Going to look at a 2wd (got a couple questions)

I did a drive by on it, owner was not at home. It is decent, some rust in the rockers. It is missing all the factory seats. It is a swing arm rear suspension.

Gonna try to catch him today.
