Need help getting steering arm off

I have a 1987 chevy 4x4. I can't get the steering arm off of the axle. I took the 3 bolts off and beat the crap out of it. It won't come off. Is there a easier way? I know it has tapered bolts.

thanks
Jason

It does not have tapered bolts.
The cone washers are tapered.
The studs are straight.

To get it off, you have to get the cone washers to come out. It has been a while since I removed one, but I suggest hitting the steering arm with your BFH from the side. After a bit, the cone washers will start to come up and you can use a pic or really anything to remove them. Don't damage the cone washers or the studs in the process.
Good luck and yes it can be frustrating.
