IFS For my 51 3100

I found a nice IFS off of a mid to late 70 1/2 ton pickupfor $100.00. It is complete from hub to hub except no sway bar. The rotors , calipers, and brake pads look near to new. I am also getting the (Appears to be a saginaw) power steering box and the steering column, complete with column shift and even has the key. The steering box seems to be tight with no play in it. The guy is goiong to pull it up to his barn so I can run my compresser and air tools to remove it. I've seen a few build threads here with some nice pics and how to's. Mobilortho did a nice job of having the IFS narrowed and inch. I was planning on do that myself, but only gaining an inch doesn't hardly seem worth it. I'm thinking it would be easier to do 1/2 inch plates where needed and use it as is. I'll be using a 305, automatic tranny, and rear end, all out of an 84 Camaro. I'm trying to build on a budget. I know cheaper isn't always better, but I'm only looking to do a daily driver. I realize I'll have to use some wheels with a sizable backspace up front, and to make it look the same in back, some 3 inch spacers. Anybody else have thoughts or advice on this?? If anyone has done the 1/2 inch plates and/or 3 inch wheel spacers I would like to see some pics, and hear whether you are satisfied with the results. Things you would do differently etc.

3" wheel spacers you're going to be adding some serious weight and I doubt you'll get a decently machined set very cheap either.

Call Fred at wheeladapters dot com. He'll give you a decent quote and advise you what he thinks.

I run 1.75" spacers on mine in the rear and they are pretty heavy. If you do go that route, give some serious thought to upgrading the brakes as you'll obviously need quite a bit more stopping power.
