It depends on which year your truck is?
The 68 through 72 is near the steering box. But they are all a little different. Have fun

this is one spot or very close..... scrape around on the top of frame. You will only have the last 7 or eight numbers there because they number before that would be the same on most trucks of the same model number. These are the specific sequence number which match the sequence number of your vin and usually the first number or letter is the year of frame. Example a Z meaning 70 or 9 meaning 69.

Mine is stamped by the power steering box and on the top of the frame rail under the cab, left side.

I bought a 67 4X4 and they put the #s on that truck at the factory. One set under the cab and one set in the engine compartment right where ROD was pointing. So I would have to say they started in late 67.

NUMBERS GAME
I have found VIN numbers on my 67 C20 in 2 places on the left side of the frame but I remember Dessert Rat saying he had a 67 GMC frame with no frame numbers at all and it was factory . I have also read some posts in the 60 -66 truck forum and it seams like some of those trucks might have had frame numbers ?????

landon...actually, that's me pointing!
Something interesting, the numbers don't always match up perfectly. The number on the frame of the Longhorn is one digit off from the vin/title. |
