Hood hinge repair ?
I have some slop on hood hinges, has anyone ever somehow tightened hinge rivets? I thought maybe using a heavy duty vise and sockets the size of rivet heads and press them back on tight. Any ideas, Thanks

Never heard of doing that...but on the bright side, I have heard the re-pop hinges work great

Check out this company that rebuilds the stock hinges. I also heard that the re-pop hinges were junk that they would bend easy.

I have some repop hinges and they're pretty solid, made in Argentina.

They were a bit pricey, but I got set of NOS hinges from Brothers for about $80 ea.
then I decided WTF & had them add a set of springs to the order, about $13 ea, IIRC

I took them to my job and used the shop press on the rivets, with a socket at the head, and pressed. What a difference, they are as snug as can be, and am confident once springs are back on will be good as new, Thanks guys

My truck came with repop hinges not installed. I put them on and no problems.
I read a post that said painting the new hinges and getting too much paint down by the pins can cause them to sort of lock and the hinges bend. Doesn't seem like paint should be that tough, but who knows. |
