How much is this 71 worth?

A friend of mine just found a 71 C10 on the internet somewhere and he said he is going to buy it.
Do you think it is worth $8500?

Here are the pictures: Click Me.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Maybe but I would sure check for rust under that bed liner and all the usual spots.

For myself, looking at what rust and non stock changes have been done, I would say no to $8500. I would be closer to $5000 but that's me.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

I wouldn't pay that much for it the way it sits let alone if your friend is buying it here in the States and shipping it across the Ocean ..NO for sure.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Not bad, it is a shortbed. I don't think it is worth $8500, but I have seen trucks way more overpriced than that.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Be aware that it's a "put together" truck. Unless he knows Chevys pretty well he may be in for some maintenance headaches. For example, it has a '90s engine with a serpentine drive, and the POA valve is a later 70's era car unit.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

I would say it's a bit overpriced. I love these trucks myself but there are alot of them out there to be had in better shape than this one. I also doubt that it is all origional. As the last post says it has a newer engine, door panels are from 72(and cut...grrrr!!!), steering wheel radio and who knows what else has been replaced.

not to mention its a 72 not a 71, look at the door panels and the rear view mirror....

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

hummm, looks like it is here in the States, correct? in that case, with shipping/freight charges and import taxes would put that truck in the $15,000 range before it's all said and done. OUCH!

second the bed liner issue. always check under them because they are notorious for causing rust. get more pics, especially the underside of each door, the cab supports, the roof drip rails, and the firewall.

The doors are not 72. There is no extra screw to support the vent windows.
Door panels are easily interchanged, as well as sticking a mirror on the windshield.
I like that he cut the door panels, rather than the doors themselves...much easier to replace.

That truck is a pass, for that kind of money, or even less you can get a better truck.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

you should pm Nigel "eightbanger" in Great Britain. he may be able to help your friend locate one over there. It would probably be much less expensive to ship one from G.B. to Germany(maybe)?

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Just be careful. The money goes fast when you hit the mechanic. I took mine to get it checked out the day after i bought it. Ive already put 1500 in it and it'll need a new trans before too long. I would check it out with a mechanic first. Thats why I bartered to make sure i had $ left in the bank.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

No. I'm seeing some really nice trucks going for alot less than that one. That's just an average truck. I wouldn't go more than 4K for that truck, and only after i checked it out really good.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Probably not worth the $8,500. If your friend can't look the truck over due to the truck's location, have your friend find someone that can look the truck over. If its anywhere in the states you should have an easy time getting a boardmember to look it over for you.

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

This is a tough call. I wouldn't pay it because I'm in the USA and these trucks are easy to find. If the truck is in Germany already it may be worth it. I don't have a clue how much trucks bring in Europe...

If the truck is in the states I would think shipping and customs would kill the deal...

Good luck, Rg

Re: How much is this 71 worth?

Mine was worth getting over here.
Shipping costed me $1800.
When itīs over here add the sale price and shipping together and then you add 19% Tax on it and 22% customs and then you have almost everything taken care of.

I donīt think he will buy the truck after I tell him what you all wrote.

Thanks again for the answers.
