Re: BOOK says its worth big money
Not a 72 hood, at least not the right hood ornament.

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
It's got power steering but no power brakes, the dask pad is gone and what the heck happened to the instrument cluster? Is that door panel on the passenger side a '72?

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
I emailed him about the discrepancies I see (6-lug suspension, 67-71 doors, drum brake prop valve, etc.), and to see if the title VIN matches the frame and cab.
IT is a solid enough old truck, it is just being misrepresented (intentionally, or accidentally, who knows)

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
I view a LOT of Craigslist stuff looking for deals.
I get darn sick and tired of the "it books for such-n-such on NADA". This to me means they are morons who really dont know the value of what they have. If it states something like that i just skip the ad.

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
Isn't that a '71 hood? My '72 has no bowtie on the hood, but there should be one in the center of the grill... his has been removed from the grille.
Oh yeah, look at the inner door panels... must be a '71, it sure isn't a '72.

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
When I bought my 71 C-10 there were some title problems, that being I failed to get the area on the title that gave the value of the truck filled out, something like that. I paid $850 for it...not in horrible shape, but lots of the usual rust and such.
Anyway, I tried to get the title put into my name, the lady at the courthouse I dealt with told me that since that area was not filled out, I would be taxed at the book value of my truck, which in her book was about $10,000. Needless to say, I didn't do that and got up with the guy I bought it off of and got the rest fixed. It really gripes me when people look in a price guide and pick the highest possible value for a vehicle as being its worth, especially when at most the vehicle is in fair condition (like the truck mentioned). |

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
I see 70 running gear, 70 hood, whole interior is hodge podge Is the gauge cluster from a 67? or just a low end fleet option. You're right about the "this is a one of a kind, and getting more valuable every day". It's people like these that drive the price of our trucks and parts through the roof. I'd like to talk to the guy in person. Cnut

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
here is what he replied to my email:
The truck was put on a Heavy Half ton frame. It is six lug drum brakes. The doors I’m not sure of. It is a 72, and I have the title which does match the vin. The truck is well worth the asking price. It’s not knew and does need a little to get it there. Any more questions you can call me @ 727-207-*****. Thanks, Ron…

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
The seller said "The 69' - 72' Chevy C-10's are one of the most desireable trucks off the chevy line"
In my opinion the most desirable 67-72 truck is the one with: a) the most options b) the least number of units made of a particular year |

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
I have to agree on the interior mess ups. the 67 or so gauge cluster the "80's camaro steering wheel" The Hack job on the Radio talk about a mess. Weather stripping missing on the doors. Look at the engine compartment-- the Hood. is that Tan over by the hood hing inside of hood, and then middle inside looks lime green?
ya got me if its cobjobbed together, what else is just thrown on that truck? |

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
Wish we could see if the rear view mirror was a roof mount or windshield mount. Sure way to tell if it's a '72 cab...

Re: BOOK says its worth big money
the steering wheel is from a monte carlo SS, not a camaro, and IMO, a HUGE upgrade from the school bus wheel that was on there. The column looks to be a 67 - 70.
the cab is at least a 71... the throttle is the floating pedal type. The doors are probably swapped from 69 - 71 The hood is 69/70 with the bow tie on it. The rear view mirror is a glue on 72 style. That inst panel may actually be original. I don't know why, nor how, but i have seen an original 71 with the silver instead of chrome trim on the 3 hole bezal, and my old 70 CST longhorn had the same silver instead of chrome on it. No one has said the seat looks 67/68, but it looks to be a cheaply recovered stock later seat. you can see what looks like the old seat cover poking through. As far as "hack job" stereo install.... once the proper DIN trim ring is installed, the slightly wavy line will be gone. As far as frnkenstin trucks go... show me a single truck on here that was restored/fixed up/hot rodded/rat rodded..... what ever... that doesn't have parts from another truck. The only things I see on there that "de-value" it, would be the wrong brakes, and the rust holes on the firewall over the heater blower motor. While it may be bondi induced, that body actually seems to be pretty straight, and has a seriouse LACK of rust holes. Up here, it would get that kind of price. I DO agree it is overpriced, and the douche bag is hiding behind book values... but that's just becouse... he can. Can't blame him for asking top dollar and accepting 2500. I've seen the general masses here indicate a truck of less quality be a worthey trade for a late model nice taho/burb something or another... and it looked to be worth way less than this one. Re: BOOK says its worth big money
Check his photobucket album by clicking on the photo above or this link http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w...aRon/?start=40
It looks like he bought the truck minus engine, pulled the engine out of a wrecked 71 Chevelle and threw some gray primer on over the red primer. It would actually be more interesting to us with the old primer job on it as it looks like a project with possibilities then. |
