Talk about Lucky!
The previous owner had a nicely packed box of parts where I found a correct # alternator. I knew the alternator currently on the truck was not the correct number but I did not know I had one in the box. I sent the alternator to a local shop and had new bearings and brushes installed. They cleaned the housing somehow and when I picked it up I could read a faded 2 digit stamp YH. I looked at the build sheet and was astounded to see the 66 YH in the alternator section. I also looked at the build date of the truck (January 5, 72) and the build date stamped on the alternator (December 21, 71) and odds are the original alternator had a squeaky bearing and the owner at the time bought a rebuilt one and paid a core charge but chose to keep the original.
YEH!!! This may seem over the top picky but it is a great moment when you can document original 38 year old parts. |
