Bed Rail ID??

Does anyone know the manufacturer or history of these bed rails. Many GM dealers installed them but I don't know if they are GM accessories/parts. I kind of like them but if they are not GM, I will likely remove them at some point.

Thanks!

Re: Bed Rail ID??

I had an 84 shortie with rails. They had 4 mount pedestals, and were beefier in size. There may have been a couple of styles. I'll look in my options manuals for your style. I'm thinking they are not factory, or even dealer installed. I hope I'm wrong though, they look great on there. Call Jerry, he'll know.

Re: Bed Rail ID??

Here is a page from the accessories manual that shows bed rails but I have never seen any that look exactly like these.

Re: Bed Rail ID??

Those are the dealer installed bed rails. They are GM. I like the look on the truck also... WES

Re: Bed Rail ID??

Dan I have seen the casket rails twice like you have pictured from the sales brochure/accessories manual (not ones currently on the truck). I was under the impression that like vent shades they were available both from GM and aftermarket with no differentiated GM number on them- so no way to tell if original GM, I am also of the impression that those particular rails(woodgrained) are 73 up type and the round tube rails are the correct ones for our particular year models. Re: Bed Rail ID??

Here is a close-up of the rear bed rail support. I really hope to learn who manufactured these and if they were installed back in '72. I have seen these on many trucks someone is going to know the story.

How about that "man step"? Never seen one of those.

Dantip, your rails are sweet. A friend had those same rails many years ago.

Re: Bed Rail ID??

I've owned 2 trucks that had the tube style (like pictured in brochure). Both trucks were 1 owner, totally original trucks. I pulled both sets before I sold the trucks and still have both of them. I also have some more dealer literature about these rails. The only drawback - they were only available for lwb trucks. I was going to cut one set down to use on my 72 Super, but after running across the ad that states avaibility for 127" I may not. I'll post pics later if anyone is interested.

Re: Bed Rail ID??

I had those same exact rails on the '71 that I had in high school (early '80's) Wood grain and all, just like your pic.
