That's for sure! I remember reading many years ago about someone stealing a huge hardwood tree worth a ton of money from a guys front yard. They did it at night and no one heard or saw them do it.

And, it was in a suburban neighborhood with lot of houses! The dude wakes up and all that was left was the stump where the tree had been ...

We just need to make it as difficult as we can and not give someone an easy opportunity to steal.

That is so TRUE! It seems like every year during the Baja 500 & 1K the locals get a little more "risky".... They actually try to steal entire semi's with rig and all in the trailer. God for bid if you crash or break and need to leave your junk on the side of the course!

Re: What is the best THeft Deturent?

I have used a coded key for my cj7, my 67, 68 , and going to put one on my 67 chevelle. It is a flat key that you stick into a open slot, then you put your key into ignition. It kills it at the starter and will not start without coded key. $69 bucks. I like it.

Where do you get the coded key? And how do you install a fuel shutoff with mechanical fuel pump?

I have a solenoid valve attached in front of the tank switch valve and it is wired to the alarm system so it shuts the fuel of when alarm is activated.

A few facts about Ravelco
  • It's been around since 1976
  • There are more than 100,000 possible combinations for jumpering those pins- good luck!
  • All the wires are black, and it's wired to more than one circuit
  • There is no master for it.
  • They maintain that not one vehicel with a properly installed device has ever been stolen, unless its been towed.

Nothing's 100% but it seemed like my best bet and a whole lot less liability than the "monkey with gun" option.

half a dozen kill switches hidden all over the truck, master battery switch, fuel shutoff, and most of all park it where nobody can move it out

Hide the toggle somewhere where people don't expect to find it and simply arm it when you are away from the truck. On my dad's Ford van, the sliding door did NOT turn on the dome light. So he simply put he toggle inside the van and always left and entered through that door. Further he left the wing vent unlatched so when the thief tried to get in he or she didn't break anything.

The crack head finds the unlatched vent, pops it open, reaches in and rolls down the window, unlocks the front door, opens the door HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK...
I like this one! Just a little confused on the flasher and relay. I'm thinking the flasher has the two prongs, but what relay?

I used a fuel selector valve from a duel tank truck like this. With "no electricity" it always defaults to one postion. You put a cap on that port, and run the line from your tank to the other port. install in the frame rail between fuel tank and mechanical pump. Then wire in a switch to energize the solinoid so fuel can flow.
look around for best price. I found them ranging from 23 to 55 bucks.

Wow, I like that thing, it seems pretty easy to install. I 'm seriously going to look into on of those!

I'm getting tired of pulling my motor everytime I go somewhere....

Or you could run a wire from the coil output to the driver's seat just underneath the upholstery, causing theft to rapidly become a pain in the backside.

Re: What is the best THeft Deturent?

Well I'd say for cost effectiveness go to a local hardware store buy the thickest chain that will bolt to the hood and wrap around a frame horn or some other hard to get to area where a key will fit with ease and remove your coil before locking it up. It takes a little time unless your running an HEI then forget removing the coil just unhook the wires to it and lock the hood as for me I have an MSD 6AL and it come with spade connectors for the external coils so removal for me is just unhooking two wires and locking my big ass chain also I have a kill switch hidden where no one would bother to look

3-on-the-tree. Seriously. Nobody knows how to drive it anymore.

I went to motor vehicles to register my '68 Biscayne and no one knew how to work the 3-speed column linkage.

Simply install an HEI and remove the fuse after you get out. Great improvement and an easy anti theft device.
