Have a question about parking light 67-68
Ok so here is my problem i am putting my truck back together with new painless wiring when i started doing the headlight section i notice there is a turn signal and parking light wire, so im thinking no big deal both of them go to parking light. But then i realize that one is a ground and since how there is only two wires coming from parking light does this mean that on the 67 that there was no parking light just a blinker only?

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
the light grounds through the housing into the grill assembly, you'll find everything grounds through the body and pretty much nothing on the truck has a ground ire.

One more thing. Being as these trucks have set for 40 years and mounting bolts have rusted or are dirty and some frames painted, it would be wise to install some ground straps to complete a good solid return to the battery. I know from experience that weird things happen to the rear lights without a good ground. |

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
every single thing on this truck is brand new i haven't even wired the lights yet that's where i stopped and some pics would be great thanks. that's what got me the one wire was black so i assumed it was a ground instead of one being blinker and one being parking

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
Okay weircc,
here's a couple pics of the driver side headlight, parklight/blinker, and side maker (not sure if you are running one??)...Let me know if you need anymore...it's just a short walk back out to the garage....for the plug that goes through the rad. support, I cut and stored the brown wire and connected the 926 t the purple and the 927 to the blue....(see pic) By the way, a couple things to keep in mind while doing it that I learned....plan out where you want to put the "maxi-fuse" (someplace easy to reach, but hidden if you are looking for the clean look), also, I had to install a diode inline with the alternator because the engine wouldn't shut down when the ignition was switched off (depends on the alt you run)...should be in the directions...Oh...FYI....when you turn on the headlights, the parklights will go out and only blink when the blinker is engaged....hope this helps some!!!....

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
I found some parklight plugs in the junkyard because my old harness was junk in some places....If you can find a donor harness it would be helpful because you'll need the connectors or you'll end up at the parts store looking for connectors....
No side makers is no problem....just post up pics with questions...I know if I can't help there are lots of others that know this better than my rookie self!!!LOL

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
purple is your poitive/turn signal I believe. like the other guys were saying with the origional 67 headlight switch the parklights go off when the headlights are turned on and act as signals only 69 and up didnt do this. I read that if you splice the purple wire into the brown that it stays on as a parklight. so with the painless kit, both your turn signal and the parklight should tie into the purple wire. I`ll have to look on the 62 i used this kit on to make sure and Ill let you know.

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
67 is the only year for no parking lamp when headlights are on.
Off the top of my head, the purple is parking light, and the dark blue one one sside and light blue on the other side would be for the flasher. It grounds through the assembly, no third wire needed per stock harness. Off topic, those selft tappers should be removed and replaced with nuts and bolts. They'll end up vibrating loose. |

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
(kinda related)
I think it's in the Ron Francis catalog (awesome catalog full of good information) there is a diagram of the 1157 (?) bulb and it explains which filament is the brake and which is the tail (one is brighter) light. I'm thousands of miles from my truck, garage or tools, just living vicariously through the net, so this tidbit is from memory but I remember seeing that diagram and thinking, "oh, that's gonna help me later when I wire this truck..."

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
Do you have the female connector that'll plug onto the one you have in the rad support??....Sounds like from the above you have purple and black from the parklight to the rad support too....I say try connecting the purple to the 926 (brown) and the black to the 927 (light blue)...leave a little extra wire if you need to re-splice for some reason...trial and error i guess??!?!...let us know how it works out!
Oh...here's a wiring diagram I pulled from the FAQ thread (see my signature area for a link)....maybe it'll help?!?!? http://www.geocities.com/chevroletc1070/v8engcomp.html

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
this is how the 62 chevy I wired using the ez wire kit is wired and works fine, I was wrong in the first post. the black wire is NOT a ground.

Re: Have a question about parking light 67-68
an aftermarket replacement... not a direct replacement OE style.
