Converting a 2wd cab to 4x4
I asked this over in the 73-87 section with no responses, so I'm going to try here. I have a 1986 2wd cab that I bought to go on my 86 K10 chassis. I have finally located a bolt in high hump center section. Is this the only part that I need? Just mark and cut out the section of floor that needs to go and then bolt the new center in? Is that all there is to it or am I missing something? The swaps that I have done in the past have all been 4x4 to 4x4 so I'm not familiar with putting a 2wd cab on a 4x4 chassis. ...Joe

The high hump is all you should need. Just need the hole for the t-case shifter in the hump.

Re: Converting a 2wd cab to 4x4
Thanks! The hump already has the t-case hole in it. I'll just need to cut the hole for the 4-speed trans. The reason I asked about this is that I had heard on the 73-80 trucks that part of the floor behind the hump had to be cut out and grafted in as well for clearance of the transfer case or needs a body lift to clear. I wasn't sure if this was going to be the case on the 81-87s as well. I don't want a body lift on this one, so I need to make sure that the cab will fit without any issues when I'm ready to install it. ...Joe

if all else fails then install a small body lift.

Re: Converting a 2wd cab to 4x4
I want to avoid a body lift on this truck at all cost. I'd rather do a little cutting and welding on the floor to make it fit right if that's what needs to be done. Hopefully it won't need anything other than the center floor hump changed out, but I'd like to know for sure before I go through the trouble to install it on my chassis. Thanks for the replies. ...Joe

Re: Converting a 2wd cab to 4x4
All 81-87's cabs have the raised area behind the hump under the seat so all you need is a floor hump from a 81-87 4x4. The 73-80 floors do not have this raised area under the seat. So the 73-80 floor humps are a little different at the rear were they meet the floor. I beleive the reason for the 81-87 floor change was to give clearance for the np208 t-case.
