HEI... 50k V vs 65k V...?'s
So, after going to ebay and looking at HEI's available.. I am not sure if I should go with the 65,000V or the 50,000V? My truck just acred the points, so I will be replacing asap. it is a 1972 c10 lwb......350 w/ th400 3.08 gears stock original motor... I will be doing some pulling of boats and motorcycles if it makes a difference, but otherwise i drive fairly slow. Give input wither way... Is there a plug gap difference? Anything I should know.....
Thanks, ~Zach |

no need to get the 65K unit. The 55K will do fine, and you would never notice one from the other on a stock engine.

So the 65k is for engines with more aggressive cam/timing (more power) that need a really strong spark? What is the line for needing to switch? Any disadvantages to running the 65k just in case someone decides to 'eventually' build their engine up?

Also, if you buy a rebuilt one from NAPA or similar store, what is the voltage of those new/ rebuilt (OEM replacement) units? Were they very different based upon application?...ie corvette vs cargo van etc.
I am asking for my understanding and for others as a reference that are somewhat new/ignorant to older style ignition systems and upgrading them. Thanks. ~Zach |
