`05 Colorado - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Newbie here. Daughters truck sits in the driveway with 3 of the 6 wheel studs broken off. they're the pressed in type and should be fairly easy to change but I can't get the brake shoes backed off to be able to get the drum off.
Is there an adjuster on these brakes?

there should be. stupid question but have you made sure the parking brake is off? the last one i did i just taped the drum off it was on real tight

Yep, the pb is off. That drum is real tight, I can get it to move out maybe
3/8" then it sticks. I've removed a plug at the top of the backing plate but there dosen't seem to be any kind of notched wheel that I can get the brake tool onto.
Damn, I've got a manual ordered for this truck but it won't be here for a week.

here is the picture i have foudn i've had to use small screw drivers as the star whell doe not always line up with the whole in the backing plate

There is a tool made that is suppost to help with this. I think it is called a brake spoon. It sounds like you know what you are looking for. Judging by the pic from truckdude, it looks like it might be higher up than the hole. You might spray some brake cleaner inside the hole to help clean it up some. Also when you go to take the studs out, try pressing them out with a c clamp and a large socket or get a tool for pressing them out. THe axle flange isn't that hard to damage.

Thanks guys, Ive got a couple versions of the brake tool and past experience as well as current info sz a couple ot taps with a hammer should pop the broken ones out. I'll use a drift punch and big hammer carefully.
