My 67 chevy stepside project
Guys,
I am a newbie here so I thought some pics of my project might interest some people. Still have a ways to go and it is not near as nice as some that I see on this site , but I am enjoying myself . I started late in life (53) to do a restoration and customization , but I always wanted to do something like this so---------. Give me some feed back if possible. |

Looks like you're way ahead of the game with that truck! What are your plans and how is the bed?

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
So far I have a rebuilt 400 SBC with a mild cam in it . New master cylinder and booster assembly with a Wildwood proportioning valve for rear brakes. It has a 350 tranny with a shift kit along with a ford 9 inch rear end . The rear brakes are ford disc and the frt are GM disc brakes. I just recently replaced the gas tank with a rear mount Blazer unit and so far have rebuilt the intermediate and rear tail light harness by hand. I have just began to work under the hood and just finished hand building the front harness from firewall forward. I have the bed off trying to decide which way to go on it. I think I am going to redo it and reinstall back onto the truck , however I think I have decided against a wood floor and am going to have a polished aluminun tub tig welded together - side, back ,frt panel and bottom. I am going to have the sides bent over at a 90 degree to cover the top rails and try to figure out how to roll the frt and back radius so it is a clean looking job. plus I think it will look good on a black satin painted truck with no logos on it of any kind . I think I am going to french in the rear taillights to the fenders and hide the fuel fill behind the side marker. what do you guys think???oh yea , I forgot the trk is lowered with new rancho rear shocks.

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
Looks like a great looking truck!
Glad to have you aboard. Now for the odd thing, I have seen a truck that is almost identical to yours at the Midwest All Truck Nat's. That wasn't you was it? The truck I'm thinking of was running a Ford/Lincoln rear end with a disc setup similar to what you were referring to above. And he even had a set of Eagle Alloys like yours.

Thanks for the pics, hell of a job there! Are those weld in saddle brackets on the rear for the trailing arms? What did you do to keep the pumpkin centered?

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
lookin sweet!
The only thing I want to comment on would be the fuel filler. I wouldn't run a 68 - 72 bed with the side markers just to hide the filler, that'd look funny with the clean light-less front fenders. I would just graft in a later model fuel filler door and make it look like it came there from the factory. |

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
Longhorn dude,
not a bad idea, you say a late model fuel door??? Would you mount on the fender or inside the bed near the rear??? I just noticed you are in columbus ohio. I was just there and stayed over in a complex by p.f. Changs and longhorns. I was there for meeting at the bluebird school bus parts distribution center in delaware ohio. The guys that bought bluebird is cerebus that owns or at least did own chrysler. |

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
Guys,
For those of you in the Arkansas and immediate surrounding states I just recently found an entire 67 stepside truck in Gravel Ridge Arkansas. I stopped and found the owner actually lives in Atlanta and works at Delta. The truck is at his mothers and he wants to sell. It has been taken apart and has had some sanding done then let set. The stepside bed is up on blocks and the cab is on the ground. There is also a rolling frame and he says there is a tranny and a 454 engine complete in a metal building by the truck. I am calling him tomorrow and will keep anyone interested posted. So as to not break any forum rules send me a pm if interested and we can deal for items I need no cash where we can trade and for parts I don't need , there will be no profit involved. Just recovering my cost!!! |

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
personally, on a stepside, i would probably mount it on the fender since the bed sides are single wall. I would find a door shape that doesn't look offensive, maybe put the bed and fender on, and draw the door shape on top of the primer, and see if round or square would look better... square is more period correct, but round flows better with the lines of the truck. Then I'd cut one off a donor car about 2 inches around the door assembly, then just graft it to the fender of the truck. Since you are going with black, the lines around the door won't show as bad, so shape may not matter too much.

Re: My 67 chevy stepside project
Longhorn dude,
Now you have got my curiosity up on the fuel door idea!!!!! I am going to the junk yard this weekend and look at some and take pics. Thanks for the suggestion.Hey for anyone reading this thread I am trying to find some old harnesses that are so bad no one has any use for them. I really just need the bulkhead connections both under dash and two ajoining plugs under the hood. I also need the dash cluster connector. Also a decent fuse box would help too. I have a few spares that I would donate to someone that had these parts. I am building myself a new harness because of the ridiculous prices the wiring companies are charging. the only true expense in one is the time and labor so the $300.00 to $800.00 range is not right!!! Some of us are on a buget!!! |
