help

hello to everyone. i have a small problem. i am trying to start my truck that i just put an hei distributer in and it will not crank. here are the facts. batery is good and i followed the instruction i found on this board about installing the dist. i dont seem to be getting power at all anywhere in the truck. the purple wire going to the dist. is connected to the terminal closet to the engine. what am i missing. i should still have lights even if the wiring to the stater is not right. throw some ideas at me please. thanks in advance.

i have the positive wire from the batt. going to the starter and the neg. wire going to the stud on the water pump. i have not checked yet for voltage to the distributer but i thought the stater would spin if it was wired right no matter what because it was it's own seperate system. thanks for the replys.

You don't even have lights? I'd say re-ground your battery.

The purple wire going to the distributor...did you add that, or is that the one that maybe used to go to the starter?
Not trying to insult anyone here...just there are't many purple wires on these trucks.
