u bolts

I got some u bolts but they are to long. The threads don't go up high enough to tighten the plate to the axle. It wouldn't hurt anything if we use washers to fill that gap would it?

How much space do you have to make up? If it is a small amount it would be ok, but I would suggest using hardened steel washers. If it is a lot I would suggest individual steel spacers for the space needed to fill.

Hardware grade washers stacked up tend to compress over time which could allow the rear end to move.

Buy the right size bolts they are cheap and if you rig it up you won't be happy.

Not true a local spring shop quoted me $86 for 4 new u bolts that fit our blazers ... remember always go new because u bolts aren't designed for second use as they have thread that gets cut into by the bolt as you tighten them down ....just something to think about...by the way my 70 blazer rear end u bolts measure 5/8 by 2 5/8 by 7 1/2

I had a set of U-bolts made by my local spring shop... cost me about $20 bucks. That was for the U-bolts, nuts and hardened washers. So yes... true!
