Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

I think the key word for the universal fit is "welder".

It will likely have the car bolt pattern of 4 3/4" on the rotors and springs that are too light for the weight of the truck.

Check out porterbuilt's dropmember. It will fit for about the same price. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=307009

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

definitely cool stuff there!
I would think that the rotors could be swapped over. I bet everything would fit.
Its a hell of a good deal starting at $1000!

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

"Universal" usually means "good luck making this fit" when it comes to street rod products.

I would spend my $1,000 on a product such as Porterbuilt's Dropmember or *****************'s Raised Crossmember ... especially considering they were designed SPECIFICALLY for our trucks.

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

I watched a video on putting these things in and it was very simple. basically just needs to be cut down on the edges and welded in.
All the kits for our trucks seam to cost a fortune compared to this kit.
anyone els have any experience with these set ups?

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

What did you put it in? and did you run into any issues while doing it?

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

A 1935 Ford 2 door sedan ... the main issue we found was getting the cross-member "square" within the chassis and getting the "anti-dive" angle set on the upper cups in a chassis that is not "jigged." A chassis is not as rigid as one would think once all the body components are removed.

This statement from his eBay description is what really gives me cold chills.

Quote:
This kit requires you to notch out the cross member to the width you need, that's what makes it universal.
Not trying to be a negative nelly, I'm just sharing my experience and the my opinion that the $1,400 BuyItNow price is not that good of a deal when considering the time it is going to require in order to make it fit our model trucks correctly. I just feel a Porterbuilt or a ***************** unit is not that much more in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

good point. I guess it all depends on how well someone can measure and weld then.

Pinto front ends belong on Pintos...Buy the real deal (model specific) for your truck if you can.

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

Here's something that I missed the first time looking at the auction ...

Quote:
It can be installed on any classic car or truck, with an internal frame width measuring no more than 2ft 5" .
That's only 29" ... I'm pretty sure the frame horns on a 67-72 model truck are wider than that inside to inside dimension.

Can anyone verify this for tranz am, I'm not where I can get to a truck to measure currently.

Re: Will this suspension fit our trucks.

We installed one of these kits in a 54 Chevy truck. I could see why someone would want to install one in that, but not in a 67-72. In the 54 we were converting from drum brake, strait axle, roller bearing type front end to the independent, disk brake, and tapered bearings style with rack and pinion that the Mustang II front end is. The 67-72 already has independent front suspention and wouldn't be that tough to change over to rack and pinion steering if that is what you are after. You do have to do lots of measuring, some of witch isn't strait forward. You also will have to fabricate frame boxing plates. Not that it is a big deal just not mentioned in the add. WES
