71 c-10 shifter handle issues
I purchased a billet shifter handle for my truck and the end that releases the shift lock out is too short. The company on ebay i bought it from said that they sell dozens and never had this issue b4.
Can anyone tell by looking at the pics whether my original is for a 1971 or not. I had to file the adapter on the end so it would fit into the square hole on the bowl but noticed the other problem after i had filed it so no returns for me. I only had to file off .004 to make it fit nicely. Thnaks jp |

Is your truck an auto or three speed? Is the shifter for an automatic or a three speed? Does your truck have a tilt column? Is the shifter for a tilt column? I don't know if it will help but the non-tilt Automatic one from my '69 measures 1 9/16" from the tip to the center of the hole. Not to sound like the post police but when you post a question include all of the information you possibly can. You will get more answers and responders won't have to ask so many questions.... I'm not familiar with the later shifters (73-up) they may use the shorter throw shifter. My guess would be that is what it is for. LockDoc

That is for a later model truck. The shape of the end is the give away.

Re: 71 c-10 shifter handle issues
Thanks Longhorn Man. I think rather than deal with the hassle of returns I will just drill out the roll pin and remove the adapter on the end. Then I will take my old shifter handle and cut of the end and mill it to fit inside the handle and install a roll pin below the surface and put a allen head set screw for added safety.
