John also showed off his aluminum welding skills on my gas tank, now I have a vent hole!!!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

hopefully I can drop off my rad support before my trip to Indiana and install it when I return. I'm planning on hooking up the radiator for the last time and starting the beast up again...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

sold my NOS bedwood, going with oak or walnut now. Amish cabinet maker can make a set for $330, that's before I offer him a few
2x12 oak boards that I have!

Bet you got a good price out of the NOS wood. I have always liked oak better than walnut. Those oak boards should help cut the cost of the new ones. Good luck

nope, I stalled to long on his offer, Dantip in Indiana bought it, it's strapped to the roof of my tahoe right now on it's way to Indy. we are in Columbus right now, we hadn't made it to Harrisburg and mikey had said " it's taking forever" ( in a three year old voice) about 5 times!

I feel your pain. Just spent a week down Ft Walton Beach FL and we hadn't even crossed the PA State Line on 95S when my 6 yr old asked"are we almost there?"

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Hey Mike...does your 33x10.5x15 BFG's rub on the tie rod at all @ full lock?...do you happen to know the backspace on your rims?

Reason I ask....It looks like I'm gonna step up to the same size tire...I got my body back on the chassis today and the tires just seem a bit too small.....But i'm worried that with my stock steel wheels the tire is gonna hit the tie rod @ full lock as it is within about 1/2" right now with the 9.5" wides...

Thanks, Dan

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

not sure on the backspacing, whatever MT classic II's run. I can pivot the suspension and see how it looks. I'm running a newer 10-bolt but I don't think the tierod is much different. Let me snap some pics tonight. I haven't had my front fenders on yet either so hopefully there are no other rubbing issues.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

ok, hopefully i'll be getting back into the garage soon... Had a pretty good time at the Carlisle truck show, met numerous board members and maybe lured a few more this way. I sold a few large items and purchased some needed trim parts from our board vendors Tim Christian and Bill Athey (pickmup). Also bought some from the truck shop since they let me park my Tahoe in an extra space of theirs... Overall I spent about $275 on new parts and got a few free T-shirts as well!

So that's where my shirt from Tim went too.

Looks like you got a lot of neat stuff. I have got to make it to Carlisle someday.

I'm gonna have a talk with Tim, I didn't get no stinkin' shirt when I bought some of his stuff at Super Chevy.

Glad you had fun up there and nice progress so far.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Glad you asked, yesterday I painted the ramhorns with some VHT paint. I bought these at a car show (still 2" vette manifolds) and they have some kind of super duper coating on them. I didn't realize it until I ground down some of the casting slag... by then I realized that this wasn't just a basic spraypaint job they had done. So the best way to clean them up again was the VHT paint. Think anyone will notice that they are different styles?

Today I want to get an alternator, mount the pulley's and fan and get the rad support ready for PC.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Also good news, looks like I "should" be moving into a new position at work in a few months. That would open the door for my promotion to Major ($900/month raise). Mama said that when I get promoted we can use the first few months of raises for the Money Pits paint and body work! That being said, hopefully it'll will see paint next spring...woohoo...

It's a slow process...promotions and the truck that is!
