bell housing question.

I have a 62 with an SM 420 tranny, it has the hydraulic clutch and currently has a 235 I-6. I am looking at getting a 327 for it. my question is will this bell housing work with the 327? if not am i going to be able to find a 327 to muncie housing with hydro clutch? Any help would be great.

Re: bell housing question.

Well to answer part of your question.....no the 235 bellhousing won't fit your 327.....or any other V8. As for finding a '60-'62 V8 bellhousing, I don't know how hard that will be to find. Myself I've only seen 1 in over 30 years of working on these style of trucks. If you have the skills, it wouldn't be that hard to mount a slave cylinder to a '63-'72 bellhousing. Another option would be to convert to a hydro bellhousing from aprox '82-'89. But then you'd have to remove the current bellhousing crossmember and then switch to a SM465 and add a trans crossmember.....a bit more work that way.

Yeah I suppose that is doable. I don't know if you can buy one or not. You might check with Speedway and Advanced Adapters. If you had to make one, IMO that would be a lot more work than fabbing a bracket to mount a slave cylinder on a mechanical style bellhousing. Novak Adapters sells a hydro conversion kit but it's ~$200 I believe. SDailey over on the '67-'72 board has one on his 4x4.
