Out with the old in with the older?

Seems like you just never get done even when you think you've finished. Although I already had my bench seat finished. Still had my mind on a set of buddy buckets. And recently I did get a hold on a set from a member. Are they really worth all the expense it takes? I dunno. These seat cushions after you remove them usually are pretty well wasted 20 years ago. So you endup getting custom made foam or purchase them from a vendor. Then the ordeal with having covers made are not cheap either. If anyone is thinking about redoing a set look at the whole picture. You can have a bench seat done for half the price you will spend on BB's. Before after shots..

Maybe it's just the new foam but seems they sit up a tad higher than the bench seat. Maybe a couple of inches or so.

Those look great and my poor old back says that they sure look comfy especially as compared to a bench seat.

I think that after the first 150+ mile run down the highway you will think it was money well spend.

Maybe..They have alot more in the bottom than the bench, after a long drive you might be right.

Definitely more comfy than the bench. I changed mine out and it's a lot better, but not as good as a new one. Still, I think you could probably shave the foam and make them feel real nice.

So did you use new 're-pop' foam cushions from one of the vendors? Are those seat covers in the 'after' pics custom or the 're-pop' slip over variety? Where did you get your materials from?

They look very nice. My thought would be the foam will settle after a few miles. The buddy-buckets are just a nicer looking set-up to me plus there's the extra hidden storage.

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

I must agree...I like the buckets much better. Plus I would assume they will do better on long trips. Then as been said...the "cool" factor. Nice job.

Great job Ron and thanks again for giving me a place to hang out while I waited for my son that day. Did you get that alternator working right?

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

These covers I purchased from Ricks Custom's in Tn..They let these go a bit cheaper than the normal price. As someone had ordered them then changed their mind. I think around $100 off. The cushions thru a board vendor. Rather pricey.@$500 a set shipped. But they are top quality cushions and by rights should be for the coin. What I do like is the room behind the seat without the tank. I actually have room to store things including my 6x9 speaker boxes. These are out of a 68 P/U CST. Really expect slightly more than a grand. And after seeing the foam completely crumbles. You might do better having someone custom cut foam for them as far as price wise but figured a set designed for the 67-68 bucket from a manufacture would be more comfortable.

And yes your welcome to visit anytime Tycoon4U. It's always a pleasure. That nice vette you can leave @ my place too.
72Blckbuty wrong color for your 68..LOL..wrong color for FIREDOG too.
As I thought about having them done in Black/white houndstooth..too much temptation on firedog. Going by a furniture store for a sofa bag to store the old bench in the rafters of the garage to keep mud dobbers off of it. Thanks for the positive responses..My fair share for OBAMAS stimulating the economy's growth ideas.

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

I didn't do the work on installing the new covers. We have a local guy that does restoration's. Although he wasn't cheap, nor in a hurry to get them finished. But he has all the adhesives, clamps, staples, marine plywood for the under the bucket bottoms. I would have had to drink entirely too many Miller Lights and wouldn't have had quite the same finished product I'm sure.

I just want to verify 'cause I've learned not to entirely trust the computer monitor when it comes to looking @ pics from the internet . .... Is that green houndstooth?

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

Yes they are the green houndstooth. So is my bench seat. And comparing the two there is only a slight difference in the shade. Could be from sun fade. I think the houndstooth has slight bit more of dark in it. And really only way to tell is sitting side by side.

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

In the pics (on my monitor), the houndstooth material appears lighter. The vinyl looks about the same.

Re: Out with the old in with the older?

Probally the flash, my garage is a cave, very poor lighting. 4-75 watt bulbs mounted 12 feet up doesn't provide adequate light. So I use a 300 watt square portable halogen to see.
