Re: phantom grille installed-pics
Your truck looks great!! I prefer the gmc 88-91 front w/billet grill, I think the phantom looks to chunky? not sure exactly.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
Between the two, I would have to vote for the 91. Why didn't you just put billet inserts in that one?

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
i'm kind of "teeter tottering" between the two myself....dont know, cant seem to make up my mind......only takes a few hours to change it back if i dont like it
...hmmm, maybe i should have tried the billet inserts for the 91 from lmc....oh well, keep the opinions comin

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
Since you seem to really want an honest opinion, here's my thoughts.
The phantom grill never did much for me because it make the front look to flat. Our trucks don't need any help there. If your truck was laid out with everything shaved, it might flow just fine. With the clean stock exterior, it just seems out of place to me. I'm not a big fan of the 91 grill's either (sorry guys), but the pic below is how I think they look best.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
Not to jump on a band wagon here, but I too think it would look better with inserts in the 91 grille. I do like the phantom grille, I just like the 91 with insert better. Also some 1 piece heaqdlights might be a nice touch if you want to change it up a little.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
either way it's nice. The nice thing about this era of trucks is that the phantom grille tucks nicely inside the chrome outter trim.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
I've never liked the phantom grills. I partial to the 91 front end because of my 90 blazer...

If you wouldn't have posted a before pic I would have thought it looked good. But I have to agree with the others. Sorry.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
i agree with the burb clip, i had the phantom on mine, itlooked good, but i love the burb front end! (also on the turn signals on the burb, there was some modification to make them sit in more, another guy removed them, and then used the 86 turn signals, sorry i didnt have this info for you, but checked up on it for ya )

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
Bigarmz... i'm going to have to go with the phantom grille. ONLY because ive always wanted that grille for many many years now. (had my wife come in and look also and (i didnt sway her vote at all) but she chose the phantom also... kept saying it looks newer but there should be a polished bowtie in the middle.
times are changing though... if it were mine i would probably put a stock '86 grille on and some nice new side trim pieces. just my .02 buddy. oh yea, i think Amy actually had a good point though...

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
had a bowtie on mine, hadnt seen it before,i think its a good idea if you keep the phantom!
(i DID NOT paint the grille, was painted when i got it, the turd tht did it didnt bother removing it, so when i did, my headlights and turn signals had stripes i did add the bowtie tho) Last edited by texasfunk; 07-31-2009 at 11:56 PM. |

I like it. It goes good with the black truck, makes it look more ghost like lol

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
thanx! it looked good, but if the truck was shaved i would have left it, but i wanted a stock/custom, so i burb clipped it and
its a transmission cooler, recently painted it black, was way too noticable! Last edited by texasfunk; 08-01-2009 at 12:13 AM. |

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
I love the '89-'91 grills,... so I say change it back. Plus I like the original side mouldings.
To me,... the phantom grill cheapens the look of your truck. (like something from AIM industries) Just my $.02.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
I would go back to the 91 front, but use a GMC grille with a billet insert. I think those are pretty clean.

Re: phantom grille installed-pics
I personally like the burban clip just the way it was. I'm not a big fan of the phantom grill, except like Ken said on a low, shaved, modified truck. I don't really care much for the billet inserts in the suburban grill. I like the stock look. It goes very well with the stock trim and all on your truck. Just my .02. That is the way I'm going with mine when I get to that point.
