1985 c10 silverado. Looking for some info on a good helper bag system 1000 lbs would be plenty. Truck is c-notch and flip kit with blocks 4in drop rear.

Chop off those u-bolts.... that's an issue waiting to happen!

Did you weld those c-notches in yourself? If so, you prob have the skill to build a AOL set-up. If not, ART makes a simple bolt-on kit that works well.

Before considering either, you'll need to gusset & strengthen your 'breaches' as it sits. I would not trust the bottom of that frame-rail to support heavy loads even w/the ends of the notch plate welded.

I used the same Western Chassis c-notch plates. For my home-made AOL set-up, my plates were first bolted in using the supplied GRADE-8 1/2" fasteners. When I cut the OE framerail for the 'C', I made sure the gap between the frame & the c-notch plate was just right & welded the seam (fore & aft). I then welded the c-notch plates on all edges & along the inside of frame along the c-notch arch as much as possible. Build for worst case scenario when you plan to load the vehicle & are out on the same roads as everyone else. There is no compromise when it comes to the safety of others.

That's the key word in your statement. Why not trim the extra length off of the u-bolts? It doesn't impact the strength of what you have & would be safer than it is currently.

If the tire blows, or you lose a wheel, those u-blots can stab into the roadbed and spin you like a Tilt-a-whirl. Fun at the State Fair, but not for you, your passengers, or the people driving behind you.

Yes you guys are all right and i should cut them down and will when i put the new bags on.
When i did it all those years ago wasent to worried and i still havent had a problem yet, but it is time to move forward and start putting some love back in my ride.

Just don't want you to get hurt or damage the truck. From the pics, it's difficult to tell.... How big are the gaps from the c-notch 'C' to the frame? I feel they should be welded & solid before attempting to load the rear of the frame.

I agree with you a 100%. before i start mounting the perches i will do a good inspection and weld the gaps at the frame and notch. I will be hauling about 600lbs extra from time to time and will over build so i have no issues.
Basic plans are to use 1000lb capacity bags from firestone with shrader valves nothing fancey just functional.

That's what my set-up is like but w/a different bag (because I already had them). I did something similar like what Rokcrln did on his Lo-Buk build-up.
