Black material between outer and inner roof...

What is it? What should I replace it with?

Or should I use the somewhat torn up piece I removed?

Any pics? What's it look like and where exactly is it? I've never seen any stuff like that in my trucks before.

Re: Black material between outer and inner roof...

Well, I just realized I threw the old piece away... but, I cut a patch out of a good roof, and this sheet of black sticky material was laying between the outer roof skin, and the interior roof.

It seems like it might be the same stuff they use under the carpet? Does it even need to be there...?

Sounds like sound deadener. Probably not critical but a good idea to have. If you need new, check with a body shop supply store. 3M and other companys make a similar product.

Ok, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something specific. I'll start checking out sound deadners for the whole thing while I'm at it.
