Clutch rod hole
I have a 71 GMC that was a 6 cylinder manual and converted to a 350 with a th350 before I bought it. I am wondering what should be used to plug the hole in the firewall for the clutch rod? I am doing the floors, so should I weld it up or is there a grommet or coverplate? I want to go with the stock v-8 auto configuration. Thanks

There is a cover plate w/gasket that was used on the automatic trucks to cover the clutch rod hole. It is held to the firewall with two small screws.

You can make one as quick as you can buy one. Make a pattern out of poster board. Then transfer the pattern to a piece of steel or aluminum and cut it out with snips. Dress the edges with a file to remove burrs. Put a bead of silicone around the hole in the cab and screw the cover in place with two small sheetmetal screws. Figure 20 minutes tops.
