Am I Missing Something?
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1340703776.html
Why is this worth $6,000? Am I missing something? Is a Longhorn really worth this much? In my mind, the longer it is, the less it is worth to me. Or is the camper worth the $6,000? |

Re: Am I Missing Something?
Actually, that camper is worth quite a bit. The combo is the icing on the cake. Picture that truck with a new paint job, etc. That would be one slick camping rig. Love to have it.

Re: Am I Missing Something?
You are correct. I like my trucks short. I guess some like them real long. I've considered cutting my longbed down but just don't feel like going to all the trouble and my little Cebora 110v mig welder won't weld frame rails.

Re: Am I Missing Something?
I just looked at a 2000 model lance camper and the dealer was asking $9,000 so they are a top line camper and hold their value pretty well. I think 6000 would be a good price for the whole rig.

Re: Am I Missing Something?
There's a whole lot of stuff out there I'd rather spend 6k. You can get a nice bmw m series for about that much. I've never spent more than 4k for a vehicle and I've got some pretty nice stuff, I mean my 72 stepside was free, just need to look around some.

Re: Am I Missing Something?
That Lance camper is probably most of his asking price.

Re: Am I Missing Something?
I'd never spend that much for a BMW M series!
Lance campers are top of the line, "Cadillac" if you will of the slide in camper market. If you all noticed the extra long cabover is designed to fit a crewcab and "look right" A king size bed is up there, and probably a small staircase instead of a traditional ladder that normal cabovers use. They can cost new $12-20,000 easily. Then add a vintage big block Longhorn, well camping just cant get much cooler than that! I guess I'm wierd. I dig the trucks that can haul more than a$$. Later---DAC

Re: Am I Missing Something?
The average 67-72 truck out here is 1500 to 3800 for long beds. Longhorns seem to be falling in at about the 2500 range out here where I am and in the swap sheets. 6000 normally brings a truck about 3/4 of the way restored minis paint job and some attention to detail items like rubber for the doors or window tracks. Motor should be clean and healthy. Everything has to function well. My longhorn is worth about 7600 but I wouldn't be able to get more then two grand most likely as an example. There is still allot that needs done to it, but it is a healthy drive train and just about everything rubber has been replaced. If you’re shooting for a goal to get a short bed truck, the desert areas are a great place to start if your wanting to restore with no rust. There are allot of them around out here and allot of Longhorns both GMC and Chevy. Oh yea, you have the El Centro Area on through Palm Springs also near you.
After looking at your picture of that truck on Craigslist, No Way I would pay over 2500 for that one in the picture. I guarantee there is rust in the cab floor and in the rockers. Used Campers are cheap out here as well. Good Luck on your short bed. R/ Billy

"My longhorn is worth about 7600 but I wouldn't be able to get more then two grand"
Economics 101: Its worth what the available market will pay for it, not what you spent on it, or sentimental value. Sorry, but I'm direct. The same applies to the truck in the ad. I doubt he/she will get much interest at that price without better pics and description showing its in pretty good shape. If it needs rockers and corners, nope. The 396 doesn't hurt though... Just my opinions, except for the first part. |

Re: Am I Missing Something?
Is that truck and camper worth $6,000?Hard to say with about no description and one lousy picture.Ya think?
As far as "the longer it is the less it`s worth" goes, there`s alot of people who wouldn`t have a shortbed. There`s alot of people who have no interest in 2wd trucks. There`s alot of people who wouldn`t have a 1/2 ton.Shortbeds is only one segment of the overall interest in early GM Haulers.I`ve always been able to like them all and judge each one on it`s own merits.
