Need Help Choosing Wheels

Well after a Long Long battle with the stock steelies im finally OVER them !!

I cant find Any steelies that are straight and good enough to powdercoat.

So Im going to order some new rims by tomorrow night, whether the ole lady likes it or not !!

Onto my choices...

Cragar soft 8 would be my first choice, and cheap.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CR...0/?image=large

These cragars would be my 2nd choice, but I cant find a price on them.

The Delux

http://www.cragarwheel.com/wheels/?id=36&first=1&fid=9

The last but not least would be the Eagle alloys

http://www.aewheel.com/eagle_alloy_wheels.cfm?id=431

But since they are aluminum they are a bit more in cost....

Is the aluminum worth the weight savings ? Also what offset is closest to the stock offset ? Im unaware of the offset of the stock wheel.

Im just to the point where I dont want to mess with finding any more wheels !! The time and money I have spent I could have some nice wheels !!

And I would also like to stick with a 15'' wheel ( Since Its not Cool ) Only because I bought 4 tires with a 55,000 mile warranty

Thanks guys

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Yea I have a slight wobble at 55mph I cant seem to get rid of...

I have rebuilt my whole front end...bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler/pitman arm, draglink and wheel bearings, had the driveshaft balanced, new spicer ujoints, new body mounts, new shocks, new tires...

My guess would be the rims

Im just sick and tired of this wobble and looking for stock steelies !!

For the money I have spent chasing this wobble, I should have started at the rims huh ?? DOH !!

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

I went down to americas tire and had my rallys checked before i put them on my truck and one was bent so i am sure you could find the bent one if you went to a good tire shop with proper equipment. i would at least try one more time.

Oh yea thats not the problem, I bought my tires through Americas tire. They have actually been helping me. I go to them and one other tire shop that I went to high school with the guy.

LOL Im just over hunting for stock steel wheels

I have bought one (or two) too many lol

Oh yea I have them balanced more then once. Even the guy at Americas tire said there machine is only balancing the tire and wheel at around 30-35mph.

My wobble is coming in at 55mph or greater.

Anyone have input on the offset of wheels ? The soft 8's are probably going to be my choice

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Hey Aaron Thanks !

Im going to go with the Soft 8's for sure. For the buck you cant really beat them.

Do you have any idea what offset would be close to the stock 15x6 steel wheel ?

Im thinking this is going to be close at 4in of backspacing ?http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3975750/

Im new to the wheel world LOL

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

I think the Backspacing of a stock 8 inch wheel is 4". So that would put the offset at 0 I believe. It's been awhile since I thought about the backspacing of a stock wheel, so please guys correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know about a stock 6" wheel, or if there is such a thing.

Personally I like the second wheel you posted best, but like both of the Cragars. Either way, I would like to see what they look like with a chevy centercap and trim ring.

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

there were 2 different 15x6s the one that was for hub caps and the other was used for spares and full wheel covers

Yep those are the steel wheels im currently running.

Im set on new rims now, Even if it involves new tires ( The ole lady hates this !! )

I really dig the stance of this rig and the tire width's.

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Thats what I like, plain and simple.

I want the rims and tires for a better handling truck, not purely looks alone.

I plan on buying some "sticky" tires for ole blue.

May as well be ready for the LSX transplant

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Have you priced tires? I know your trying to do this on a budget, so take a look at the cost of tires. You might find that 17's are cheaper than 15's in the size you need. Since many of the newer trucks come with 17's you might be able to find take offs for a decent price.

Personally I think a chrome or polished 17 (or bigger) would look great on there. I know the black wheels are the rage, but in my mind your trucks color would come to life with a bright wheel.

If your really set on a black wheel and want a competition look, what about something like this?

Hey Ken thanks for the input.

I bought tires in Ocotober last year, Brand new with 55,000 mile warranty. When I was looking at the time 15'' tires Where the most expensive like you mentioned. Most newer trucks/suvs have 16'' or bigger.

I really thought I wanted to stick with 15'' rims. ( Last Year )

Now I have bought lowering spindles and plan on dropping the truck 3/5-4/6. And with the LSX in the future I would love to go to a bigger brake setup.

Most of those plans wont happen with a stock wheel, since they will cause rubbing issues in the front and not allow big brake setups.

So lesson learned there...

I really like the look of that eagle alloy without the beadlock "style". To me thats more of a offroadish looking rim.

Im dead set of 17'' rims, Just need to make width choices and find some in my budget. Tires are whats going to be the big spender.

Personally I like the look of the Soft 8's.

Any input is appreciated guys !!

Thanks

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Going back to the wobble, sure it isn't a bent axle? Has the truck ever hit a curb or something?

I was forced off the road a long time ago and went up a curb. The rims weren't bent but the one axle was. Just something else to think about.

Re: Need Help Choosing Wheels

Yea its defianately a rim. Thats why I have bought the others and hunted down so many, to try and replace the bent ones.

Only problem was I had to find at least 4 good ones and still be able to drive my truck.

Pretty much just sick of looking for rims ahahaha.

Thanks for the input.

did you rotate that tires around to diffrent sides of the truck, and feel the vibrations coming from diffrent sides.or is it just one side all the time?
