1955 Chevy truck - factory automatic?

At a local cruise the other evening, I saw a BEAUTIFUL 1955 Chevrolet truck... at least I think it was a 55. Restored back to original conditions. It had column shift automatic, which appeared to be factory, especially since it had "hydra-matic" emblems on both front doors. That was the oldest Chevy truck I had seen that was factory automatic. Does anyone know what the first year automatic was available on the Chevrolet / GMC trucks? I am thinking it may have even been before 1955, but I could be wrong.

I wish I had of had my camera, I would have got some photos of the red beauty.

I took this at an awsome junkyard a couple of days ago. If you look under the GMC letters on the side of the hood it says Hydromatic.

Re: 1955 Chevy truck - factory automatic?

This drivers side fender was on my '55 truck when I bought it. Obviously someone put a 1956 fender on the truck. My truck did not have a v8 or the automatic but still is a neat emblem.
