Slide in camper?

Did they make a slide in camper for the first generation blazer/jimmy? if they did are they now almost unfindable or were there quite a few made?

Re: Slide in camper?

Yes, the made them. I've only seen a few that came with trucks. You may search for "Chalet" although they technically were not a Chalet until I believe 1976, but people often call them that.

Re: Slide in camper?

I've never seen one that looks like the bottom one except in that picture (which was also used in an ad or article). I would guess that is a concept prototype from back in the day.

Re: Slide in camper?

Not a real common find at all but here is one that was up for sale last year, it had a crank up roof. I also agree with bouncy on that last one being a GM trade show/concept rig, check out them chrome plated wide wheels.

Re: Slide in camper?

Hey Bouncy that whole truck looks very familiar to me .Did come from a guy by the name Ray and was the lots of rust in the bed .
Your correct on the Chalet .I have never seen one in person that nice and further more I think it was
in developing stages and never marketed. However the one on the black Blazer looks like one I owned for a week or two

It could be the one you owned. I just found those images on the net...

Most of them I've seen pictures of look more like the one Classic Bowties posted.

I run across random aftermarket slide-ins on 1st gen Blazers occasionally, but I don't track them at all. Made that map myself by plotting all the ones from the two 'for sale' lists at our Yahoo forum, which I also laboriously maintain. Took a loooong time to do, and to answer any questions on that in advance, no I won't do that for older Blazers & campers, someone else will have to volunteer for that.

Try putting the words "blazer pop up camper site:craigslist.org" in a Google search window, and you might be able to dredge up a camper fitting a 1st gen Blazer. It will be a tougher search, though.

Re: Slide in camper?

I don`t think any of these,except maybe the GM prototype,are what I`d call slide-in.

Here`s some text on that one model:
