modifing a 73-87 tilt-colum on my 65
I have a tilt, automatic colum from a 76 c-10. I place it in the truck, attached it to the steering gear box and the colum is so long you can now steer the truck from inside the bed. Has anyone ever done this conversion before? Ideas?

I haven't done it myself, but I know it has been done many times. It sounds to me like you need to shorten the intermediate shaft, That is the part between the end of the steering column and the steering box

I am getting ready to do that myself, and I know I will have to modify the length and the housing diameter because it is larger around than the original one, but shouldn't be too tuff. I will likely eliminate the ignition wiring from it and just use the turn signals and hazards only. I wil try and post my progress on it soon.

If I shorten the intermidiate shaft then the shifter arm will be far away from the firewall. I think that will be a problem as well.

What chevy283 said - you can get the collapsible roll pins at NAPA to put back in the shaft after shortening - or, if you use the steering box from the same donor truck, the length should work fine - it did on mine (I used the entire front crossmember, power steering box and tilt column from an 83 on my 66; switched to B&M floor shifter)
