64 GMC custom trim question

Got this '64 GMC as a project Restro/Rod rebuild. Wife wants to keep the chrome trim. But here's the question. This is a Custom cab fleetside truck, but it only has trim on the front fenders and doors, none on the bed. There is no evidence of the bed ever having trim on it. I know the previous 2 owners (family) and they both say it came that way. This only leaves the orginal owner, who I can't find. As far as I can tell the truck is all GMC, it has a GMC tailgate, leaf springs, humped dash, etc, etc.

Was the trim an option? Asked the same thing over at 6066gmcguy and never got a real answer.

Re: 64 GMC custom trim question

pictures would be nice.
Here's what I know which is very little as I am new to this.

GMC had little emblems "Custom" on both sides of the cab.
And the doors had trim around the windows. almost looked like a large letter "D".

and only one peice of body trim that went the distance of the truck. and I cannot tell you if it was a option or not.

here is a good picture of the cab.
The side trim should have come on down the front fender.
The custom GMC's also had A chrome front grill and bumper.

Not sure but I think they also had the trim peice in the windsheild weatherstrip.

Re: 64 GMC custom trim question

the scenearios that I think:
1) fleet bed was crashed, and changed out within the first couple of years , when the truck was still worth fixing ,rather than totaling out by the insurance..
2) truck originally was a stepside, and a different fleet gmc bed was installed at a later date..
#) maybe it came that way from the factory, production oversight/ran out of trim on thge line?

do the bed and gate appear to have ever been a different color than the cab?

Re: 64 GMC custom trim question

I agree, it must have been a fender side truck in the beginning...

Re: 64 GMC custom trim question

I'm leaning toward it coming from the factory the way I got it. Patina matches too well. plus during the disassembly (truck totally apart right now) all the bolts seemed to have the same amount of rust and funk on them. Hopefully the pictures follow...first time for everything. lol

Re: 64 GMC custom trim question

Thought ya'll might like a bigger pic of my first ever build.... Built originally in 1991, been through several reincarnations since then. This is it in it's current state. running 383 SBC stroker, TH350, 9"Ford w/4.11 gears. Yes...it's quick enough to get you a ticket. LOL
