Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
Recently bought a 71 Cheyenne LWB and I swear that the upper molding on the bed tapers downwards as it gets closer to the tailgate. I have always been under the impression that the distance between the upper and lower moldings was the same throughout the length of the truck bed. At the front of the bed, near the cab, the distance between the two moldings is 13" and at the rear of the bed, near the tailgate, it measures 11 3/4". Is this correct? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
Mine is the same as yours. I guess the artists designed it this way.

Re: Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
It's correct, the upper molding follows the upper body line.

Re: Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
Yes, there is a definite taper, something which has always irratated me. I suppose it's better than the alternative, unavoidable probably.
On the same topic...my cab truck is in the body shop and we can't seem to establish upper trim height, since the truck never had it up to this point. The assembly manual goes to great detail on positioning but nothing on horizontal placement. I don't wish to hijack the post but does someone know how to establish this, or do I wave down a full trim brother when he passes?

Re: Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
Spoof, in your assembly manual the molding hole heights are based on the line (30). I don't know where this comes from but, if you were to establish this at the door lock cylinder from the lower body line, you could run it the length of the truck and measure your molding holes off of that.
There's probably a thread on here somewhere but......... that's what I would do.

Re: Distances between Upper & Lower Moldings
The rear of the top piece lines up with the top of the tailight bezel trim,if that helps any.
