Looks like a good starter for whoever gets it. That one would be cool to make it a chort or wheel it as is. Give it a tune up, loose the rack and make em drool at the next show. No new paint! No new paint!

The full wheel covers were not part of the package. I just found a pic of my Dad's 50th the other day. He bought it new and it had the Dog dish hubcaps.

My 50th has the full wheel covers listed on the spid so it depends on how it was ordered .

My guess is Chevy made a run of indentical trucks equipped all the same way a sold them as is, while they lasted.Might be like the pickup in the photo, a fully loaded CST with full wheelcovers, air, auto etc. It would not make any sense to special order these trucks set up all different ways, since it would defeat the purpose of Chevy making any profit and giving you a special savings. The add says "specially equipped" sounding very similar to the "Highlander" promotion package of '72, where these trucks had special interiors and special options included. Agian "specially equipped" must mean more than special color. The gold color could have been continued to be used after the special run of trucks were built.

but the seat, dash and visor colors were special equipment not used before nor since... special equipment.
And they weren't all equipped the same, I looked at a C/10 LWB fleetside, 2 bbl 307/3 speed manual/3.73 rear 12 bolt. This thing had hardly any options. Had the paint, the bucket seats (carpet on floor and over fuel tank included) the 50th colors inside, passenger side visor and arm rests on steel door panels, lower trim, and that was about it.

If you think about it logically, a 50 year anniversary of building trucks was a proud moment for Chevrolet in 1968. Do you think they would be appropriate for them to add only the gold paint and interior? How many of the buying public in 1968 would go for that? Would this really be a sales clincher? I think they went all out and offered a prebuilt vehicle with the most carlike comforts(like pickup in photo I provided) at a special price, to show how far they have come in 50 years of building trucks. Remember it was a "sale", which usually means for a limited time only, while supply lasts.This sale occurred in the spring of 1968, in the middle of year. Agian, all I have is this one add photo, and I am deducting from photo and literature, and it shows a CST with full wheelcovers. As soon as other factory literature and documents surface, we really don't have the full answer yet.

Where I am going with is where I have always been. We still do not know what a "true 50th" is. Nobody has produced any detailed documentation with facts yet. Until then, it just a gold and white 1968 Chevy that you think is a 50th.

Now I understand what you are saying. You would like documentation that tells you that the 551 paint code is the indicator, along with what else the 50th anniversary entails. I can't help you there, but I certainly understand why you would want documentation.

I believe that the 551 paint code does specify a 50th anniversary truck. Here is what I can offer:
In 1955 Chevrolet produced it's 50 millionth auto. To celebrate they offered the Bel Aire in a gold color, which was specified by the 689 paint code. It is believed by some that 5,000 were produced. The special part on these was the paint and interior, but the cars could be ordered with any of the optional engines, and other options. It was not a full package of options, simply special colors and then normal options could be added.
In 1962 Chevrolet celebrated the 50th anniversary of Chevrolet by offering a gold paint (code 927) Impala. This could be ordered by anyone, there was not a minimum or maximum number of cars, and it could be ordered with any of the normal options.
In 1968 Chevrolet celebrated the 50th anniverary of their trucks by offering the 50th anniverary Chevrolet truck. This could be ordered as a pickup, van or elcamino. Again, it was a special paint/interior, but could be ordered with the normal options, just as it happened with the 50 millionth anniverary promotion and the 50th anniverary of Chevrolet promotion.

I am not trying to convince you of anything, just offering what I know. This information comes from what I have read. I do not have any documentation from Chevrolet supporting any of it. It may or may not be out there. I have never looked for it.
