classic car insurance

I checked hagerty insurance on insuring my beast of a truck. I came up with 243 a year full coverage based on a 10k value which I think is more then reasonable.
What has everyone else come up with? did the actual amount change from the quoted amount?
what is everyone using?

Re: classic car insurance

Did you give them pictures of your truc when you got the quote?

A lot of the cost depends on the state. For example, in Michigan where we have the "Uninsured Motorist's Fund" there is a a $135 dollar "fee" applied to the first classic car that is insured. (For cars other then classic cars, the "fee" is applied to all vehicles).

Re: classic car insurance

I pay Grundy about 260.00 for $35,000 on my wagon and then added my 83 c-10 and it was 65.00 added to the premium, the 83 was 6,000 worth of insurance. Hagerty was higher for me when I checked.

Re: classic car insurance

The one concern I have is that some of the Specialty Insurance Companies have driving restrictions. ie: If you drive your vehicle to Walmart and get into a fender bender it's not covered. If you use it for some personal work...not covered. If you use it as a daily driver its not covered. etc. What restrictions have you all found. The insurance I have now will only insure my truck for up to $24,000. I am interested in your findings.

Re: classic car insurance

Check with Grundy. They do quotes online and they will beat Hagerty on the same coverage.

Re: classic car insurance

I have mine insured through my regular ins. company but what I have learned to take alot of pics of your truck for the ins to have get an appraisal done at a local shop for value (most shops will work with you on the "value") then talk to your agent...I have mine ins for $5000..is it worth that well thats all subject to opinion.....probaly not the truck if it was stock but start adding in air ride and things like that then probably yea

because I'm single my old truck qualifies me for multi car discounts so I think I'm paying under $200

Re: classic car insurance

There is another thread about classic insurance you might want to read over if you haven't already. Some of these guys make a good point.

The 1st link is one that I started 1/09 as I was looking for insurance to cover my truck. Because of this thread it reminded me that I still hadn't found an insurance company to my liking. I called Grundy and was pleased with what I was quoted and told. (Info in link)

vegaschevy...thanks for this thread that you started as I forgot to finish my research into insurance quotes.
