Rear Gear Info??
Some of you have touched on this already, but how do I determine the rear gear on my 71 C-10? It isn't located on the sheet on the glove box door. I believe it isn't located there because it isn't a special option, as it has the standard stock gear. Any help? - what was the std gear in 71 for a 350ci 1/2 ton? Is there numbers located on the outside of the rear end that I can decode?

Re: Rear Gear Info??
there might still be the ratio tag on the diff cover.
you can jack up one wheel and turn it 2x and count how many time the drive shaft turns. pull the diff cover off and count the teeth or find the stapmed ### and do the math search, it is coverd, alot. |

Re: Rear Gear Info??
2 ton pretty much covered it , another thing would be tach readings. Mine was the same truck as yours and was stock with 308 gears.

Re: Rear Gear Info??
3.08 is a car gear
Off the top of my head, a 350 with a 3 speed manual would be 3.73, with a 4 speed or 3 speed auto would be a 3.07, and I think a powerglide woulda been a 3.73. This would be as base equipment and assuming no gearing options ordered. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 10-07-2009 at 06:19 AM. |
