Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

Looking at other fleetsides I've noticed my bumper seems low and stick out about 2inches from the truck so I checked all the brackets aginst an OEM aftermarket magazine and all looks correct for a 72. So have other people just found an easy way to tuck the rear bumper in. I crawled under tonight and loosened up the brackets on the frame but it doesn't move much before the brackets contact some of the factory bumps and rivets in the frame.

Any suggestions or pics, couldn't find anything using the "search".

Here's the best pic I have of mine right now.

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

Take the bumper and brackets off, hack a inch or two out of the mounting brackets, weld em up, paint em up, mount em back up and you're ready to rock!

Looks like the brackets are mounted wrong. Here's how mine sits. It's higher and tucked in more. Nice truck by the way. Where in N.S. are you?

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

I dont know about your 72 but my 70 has 2 sets of holes in the frame for the bumper ...I mounted mine in the lower holes since mine is a stepper with a lip that goes up... I could hang it low to give me a better look from the back ....I think yours is mounted in these holes too look above where it's mounted there maybe another set of holes??

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

I'll pull the bumper completely off and have a better look tomorrow but the brackets look OEM and in the corect locations along with some filler panels below the tailgate according to the LMC build-up for a 72 fleetside. I pulled some of the bolts completely out last night and they are way to small for the size of holes so I'll install larger bolts first and see where it sits after that. There are ywo sets of holes but the rivets and such wont allow the brackets to reach them.. could the PO have installed blazer bumper?
Thanks for the comments, I'm in the valley KMAC, here's a better pic of the old girl.

Nice looking truck! What size tires are those on the back? Do they fit without modification?

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

I'm at work right now but I wonder if the bed may be too far forward on the frame.. anyone know the general spacing between the back of the cab and bed? Bumper brackets are origional OEM and in great shape so I'm kind of scratching my head on this one. I'll have a real good look tonight.

Tires are 31 inch Hoosiers on 10 inch rims. PO enlarged the rear wheel tubs but I thing it would have been fine without.

Isn't there a difference between the sport bumper and the work "Barden" style bumper brackets? Is it possible you have the wrong brackets on the truck?

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

Got it... did a little research... seems I have brackets for coil spring trucks only! Mine is leafs so guess i need to find the right ones. Small pic are the ones I have which are similar but the hole configuration is not correct for my leaf spring frame that has the shackle hanger in the same location. Large pic is what I need.. also called 4x4 brackets.. probably because all 4x4's were leafs.

Hope this helps out someone in the future!

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

Mine still has the factory brackets, but I still didn't like how the bumper fit, so I elongated some holes and with time and patience, I got it to fit nice and snug to the body and just below the tail light bezels.

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

Just throw a few pics I took tonight since I was installing my rear bumper and brackets.

These are reproduction rear bumper brackets that I purchased from Tuckers. (on a side note I said this place sucks and I went back in to grab a few things for the truck to try and get it on the road and delt with a more then helpful owner)
Everyone says how they are cheaper crappy fit etc. These fit like a glove and the second set of holes align perfect when bolted up. Not to mention I took the right outer bracket and put it on my shipping scale and they weighed EXACTLY the same weight right down to the 3.2 pds

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

thanks for the pics. Are you sure they are installed that way though? The catalogues show youre inner and outter brackets are reversed (long ones go on the inside of the frame) and they also appear to be upside down? They are the right ones though because you have a coil spring truck.

Re: Anyone tuck their rear bumper in? Pics?

I was gonna say something about the coil and leaf bumper brackets being different. I am looking at getting a sport bumper on mine and saw the brackets listed that way. They list them as 2wd coil and 4x4 leaf, I got confused because they don't mention 2wd leaf. Now I know what to get thanks to you!!!

Il tell you when I align the bumper on the truck I had nothing to go off when I installed them and the notch seemed like they would go that way. maybe not. wouldnt be the first time I screwed something up.
