Broken rear leaf spring.

I got a broken leaf on my left rear leaf spring 80 C10 LWB (Big Ten) a total of 6 leafs counting the large bottom one. I checked LMC and the 6 leaf is $329.00 each, but the 5 leaf is $119.95. Should I swap both rear springs and save some $$ or will It be a disappointment. The previous owner has lowered the truck what looks to be 2.5" in the front , and 4" in the rear. It is not slammed to the ground but it is very level. I kept hitting bumps and getting jarred around. Took a look and found a broken leaf F%@$ Me is all I could think!!!! Any suggestions or advice on what route to go? Thanks.

Re: Broken rear leaf spring.

Any local spring shop will make you a new leaf. Around here, it's 75 dollars. You take the assembled pack in to them and pick it up a couple of hours later with a new leaf in place of the broken original.

They are listed under "truck spring shop" in most phone books.

Re: Broken rear leaf spring.

If you can't find someone to fix your leafs, and you buy new ones, make sure you get the right ones. There are two lengths, 52" and 56" (end to end). Each spring has the rear hanger bracket in a different locaton on the frame. I can get completely new leaf spring assemblies locally for just over 100 a piece...so definately do not buy them from a catalog...you pay WAY more, and have to pay to ship them.
