please help!! I made a $1200 mistake
I have a 2006 4x4 wt with the 17" steel wheels. I found an old set of 16" alloy wheels from like an 02 and knew the lug pattern was the same so assumed they would fit and ordered 900 dollars worht of lt285 75 16 goodyeaer silent armor from tire rack. put the rear tires on w no problem and they look great. went to put them on the front and the inner portion of the wheel does not clear the brake caliper. I guess now i know why they went to stock 17" wheels. please help. any suggestions? maybe i can change out the calipers? or is everything different and i have to start over

I don't personally recommend this but I have seen a few people slightly grind down the calipers.

Re: please help!! I made a $1200 mistake
Won't work at all, starting in 04 GM got rid of the disk brakes in the rear, went to rear drums again, and put larger disks in the front. You cannot fit anything smaller than a 17" wheel on 04+ trucks. You also cannot fit anything smaller than 16" on 99-03 trucks.

Re: please help!! I made a $1200 mistake
this happened too me too, went tot the dealer with my rims off my 03 to put on my 06 for winters, got the tires mounted and went to put it on and didnt fit, lucky i bought the tires from our local dealer whos a friend and he just exchanged them for 17s and i found a set of rims on craigslist, dealer said you cant change the caliper size, so youll have to return them

Re: please help!! I made a $1200 mistake
It was for half ton trucks. 3/4 ton and 1 ton could use 16" wheels up to the 2010 model year. After that it was 17".
